Q: Soap And Water?

Hi guys, I having been reading alot about female issues and one of the main things that stand out to me is the fact that some people only cleanse their female bits with water Shocked some of these articles say that you shouldn't cleanse with soap and water Confused It just seems odd to me.

For as long as I can remember I have always washed down there with soap and water.....Not even a special soap, whatever soap or body wash I was using to cleanse my whole body. The only place I use a special soap for is my face.

So do you wash with soap and water or just plain water? And if you do wash with just water, do you feel clean or do you use other methods for cleansing like douching etc.?

There's a new feminine wash called "re'.P.H'resh" it supposedly balances your ph levels down there.

I couldn't imagine just using water. How gross. You still stink if you use water. You need to cleanse, thoroughly, that area!

My gyno said dont use any of the feminine washes as they tend to be too overly scented and have ingredients that can throw your vagina out of wack. She also said most soaps will do that and you can get yeast infections.

She recommened a very gentle soap like ivory, and I love it.

Do not ever douche! That is the worst thing you can do.

I use johnsons softwash. It's liquid soap (meant for the babies but who cares) and it's really mild and gentle

O.K. So i'm not alone...Soap and water seems to be the norm.

Lol .Sarah...That's what I was thinking....How in heaven's name can using only water be sanitary.

Nataliachick.....I know about the douche, actually I learned the hard way, in college I was an avid doucher (long story...My mother never discussed the workings of the female body with me and I actually thought that anytype of discharge was not good, so I used to douche to get rid of the discharge, and back then there was no sex ed in school so I didn't really know) and never had any problems with it. But about 6 years ago when I changed ob/gyn, when she did a pap smear she said "i can see that you either douche alot now, or at one time in your life you did" and I was like, "yes, when I was in college, how can you tell that" and she said that douching leaves "some kind of yellow bumps" (can't remember her exact words) in your vaginal cavity Shocked so I asked her how in hell do you get rid of them and she said that they were permanent Shocked after hearing that, I never douched ever again.

Yes, douching is bad. It removes the good bacteria as well as the bad.

Many women have a reaction to soaps in their girlie bits, most soaps are too harsh and can also lead to recurrent uti's.

Personally, I just use my shower gel/bodywash all over, and i've always been fine, although I only use it on the outer genitalia and then rinse it off then spread (gosh talk about graphic) the uter labia and rinse the inside with clean water.

It reminds me of some of the articles they used to have about all of the anti-bacterial soaps and how bad they are for you because they take away the good bacteria that is needed too. I too am an ivory user, I used to use the ivory snow laundry detergent but it got to be so expensive!

Has anyone heard of alluminum free deodorant?

Alluminum supposedly has links to altzimers and cancer.

But this alluminum free deodorant makes you *stink* like horrible body odor!! I was *never* one to be musty! And I started using it, being on this natural kick when I first got preggy, and ohhh my .God. Shocked

lets just say i'll take my risks with that.

As far as douching, I never have. My mom always told me not to, but she had on a couple occasions. I didn't ask questions, squirting water *up* my cooch, didn't interest me at all.

I have a question about the aluminum thing now that you guys bring it up. In high school I had a teacher I was really close with she got sick and told me she had to stop using deodorant because of the aluminum and I always suspected she had gotten cancer or something serious is that a common thing they tell you to do with cancer?

That's just nasty. When I went to university a gyno there told me never to use soap and I laughed at her. I asked her if she used soap and she said no, then I asked if she had a bf and she said no. I told her if she used soap she might get one.
