I have been on birth control for almost 9 years. I have recently decided to give my body a break. I was wondering about how long it would be before my periods would get to normal, or should they stay on track even though im not on the pill. They were regular when I started the pill as far as I can remember.

I just came off the pill in june and I was on it for 12 years!!!

Being that it is half way through december now, my periods are still very irregular. This doens't happen to everyone, but people can suffer from "post-pill ammenhorea" - where your period does not come back on it's own for a while, or remember, that it can take sometimes 6-12 months for your body to regulate itself again back to "normal".

My af's were also regular when I started the pill.....Not sure what to think now! On the other hand, there are alot of ladies here that have stopped the pill, and returned to normal periods the following month. It all depends on your own body. Unfortunately, it will be time that will tell you!

Are you trying to get pregnant? The reason I ask, is that if your body does not respond for a long time, you can go in and see your doctor and they will run some tests on you and perhaps give you a pill to take to try and regulate your body again.

(they can also do this even if you're not ttc!)
good luck....Hope you body is better than mine Wink

no, I just decided to take break from birth control. I know that its not really good for you (no medicine is) so I decided to take a break. I was just wondering. I stopped the pills on the las week of the pack and I never got my period. I figured if I stopped on the last week it wouldnt really effect much since those pills are only there so you dont forget to take the pill every day. I wasnt sure if it would take a while for my body to get to regular. Thank you for your help.

Your periods may regulate right away or they may take awhile. I stopped the pill in june after taking it for 7 years. I'm getting periods every 28 days or so (first one was 5-6 weeks after the withdrawal bleed), but they still are not normal. They are extremely light. Like I only need tampons the first day. I was never this way pre-pill and think my body is still regulating itself.
