My child has been sick now for well over a week with fever, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, diahrrea, etc and they tell me it's a viral infection. Typically, how long does a viral infection last?

middle ear infection
A doctor told me I had a middle ear infection and gave me some anti-biotics. ThaThat was over a week ago, and I've had the pain now for about four weeks. The pain isn't really bad, but I have heard that anti-biotics won't help for a viral infection. How long would this last?
