Q: Iron Allergy - I Think!

I have recently started taking glucosamine plus chondroitin to help with a very painful elbow joint. After taking these gel capsules for three days I have developed a really really itchy rash around my neck and hairline. Upon checking the capsules the shell itself contains iron oxide and I wonder if this is the cause of the reaction. I do suffer from mild excema and I always use the same washing powder, shampoo shower gel etc. So I know that is not the cause. I have always taken multi-vitamins without iron as I know that the iron upsets me!

Can anyone shed any light on this before I go waste my time and the doctors

thank you Confused

Just want to respond to question of 2/04 that iron hypersensitivity is real and may be more common than we know.

Finally I'm Absorbing Some Iron!
I have been very anemic for a long time and was taking very high doses of iron. I would still get the cracks in the corner of my mouth. I recently switched over to a product called juice plus. My blood work ups are looking much better now. Jp is essentially a bunch of fruits and veggies juice, then dried in a capsule, so instead of taking vitamins by themself, i'm getting the actual fruits and veggies! Somehow my body is absorbing them much better!

Here is a link to a website about them, if anyone wants to read some info on them.

Iron Allergies
i'm a 23 years old girl that is suffering anemia.
my doctor give every known iron pill in the market , after all of them fail he decide to give me intravenous iron, but that didn't work either.

Even a small amount of iron in regular food makes my face swelled and if i intake more iron i start having problems breathing.

when i get the iv iron I end up in the emergency room because of the reaction. The hospital is open for more than 40 years and they have never have seen anyone allergic to iron.

I would like to know if some one else have this problem and how are you treating the problem.

Iron Allergy
I have an iron allergy (confirmed by a doctor) and I am wondering if your problem could be hematomachrosis due to being allergic.
I seem to be having rash problems recently particularly if I try a new medication or even new soap powder or stuff like Downy. I have also had a bad reaction to Niacin.
Doctors don't seem to know about the iron allergy unless they actually see it. My doc said I was the first she had seen.
