Hi,

i'm in my 30's and until recently have never worn anything other than a totally flat shoe (ok sure i'm pretty unusual). Then due to changing jobs and lifestyle I decided to start wearing heals sometimes. I dont mean anything real high, maybe 2 1/2 inches and i've made sure I get a really good and comfy fit. Initially I was pleased to have more choice in shoes and be able to dress a little more womanly and to have some fun. I was also suprised I could be wear a higher heeled shoe and actually be comfortable.

Then a friend commented and basicly ragged me out saying that in the long term I will ruin my feet etc. Will i? Right now I do not have deformed toes that lots of women have. But since i'm not cramming my feet into poorly fitting shoes like girls can do, and i'm not wearing real high (except for a party etc) will I suffer any long term consequences?
I'd appreciate any (sensible) opinions please.

Laura

Nope, so long as you look after your feet and do not stand in high heels all day every day you will be fine.

A small heel is often better than totally flat anyway.

Listen to your feet... Do they hurt in your heeled shoes? Do your legs feel tired and achy? Do you just wanna slip your shoes right off asap? Does it feel wrong when you go barefoot?
If the answer is yes to any of these questions then you might be wearing heels to often.

Your feet should hurt/ache/etc and your legs should not feel tired or cramped.

You should be comfortable in your shoes and not dying to remove them at the first chance.

You should feel comfortable barefoot (if not you are probably cramping the calf muscles from wearing heels too much, too long, too high.
