I was taking the hrt presctibed by my doctor, and discovered, all the bad side effects, and dangers.. The blood clots, the heart disease, etc. I took the prescribed hrt for two years, and although the hot flashes went away, I had other major problems.... I finally threw those hormones my doctor prescribed away .

I found a wonderful female gyn who prescribes bioidentical hormones for her patients who have problems taking the fake hormones.. Thats what I call them, synthetic.

My doctor sent me to a compound pharmacy where the pharmacist made up my hormones right there for me.....They are made from natural substances.... I have been on the natural hormones for almost two years... I have never, repeat, never felt better in my life...Or since I was 16...
I have not had one side effect, no blood clots, all is good.......Its all because the hormones are tailor made for me only, they are natural, and much much better than those one size fits all disease causing synthetics the pharm companies want us all to take.
My mother was on synthetic hrt for 20 years.. Her doctor told her, it would protect her heart, and arteries, and her bones.... Well guess what... She stepped down off a curb, and her ankle bones were so brittle from osteoprosis, it cracked her ankle from just stepping down... It shattered her ankle.. She had surgery, with pins etc.... The next day they were taking a blood clot out of her lung the size of a loaf of bread.....Her surgeon recommended she go off those synthetic hormones that was suppose to protect her bones and heart... Today she suffers from heart disease, stenosis, and osteoprosis....Caused from those wonderful dangerous synthetic hormones.

Hormone Replacement Therapy
Since insurance does not cover this sort of medication, what are the costs involved?

I'm 54 with a total hysterectomy 20 years ago. I've been through the gamut of hrt. I moved to AZ and in finding a new gyn, found a doctor going through menopause. She does bioidentical hormone pellets (and has them herself). They are implanted in my hip and last 3-4 months. They are the best! I get estrogen and testosterone. My body only uses what it needs and they are closest to what we make naturally. My life has changed drastically for the better with regards to menopause and libido. Almost like being on newlyweds again! I hopefully will have these till I die!

My insurance DOES cover the bioidentical hormone pellets. My doc charges $220 cash. But the cost without insurance ranges from $220 - $400 for a 3-4 month period.

Hi Sherleevan
I use compounded hormones also. I love them. I wouldn't trade them for a million dollars.

PJ, I pay approximately $50 per script, it's suppose to be a 30 day supply, but it lasts much longer than 30 days, I would say more like 90. I have had insurance in the past that did cover a part of the costs. I had to file a special claim form, but I did get some money back. All in all, it is money very well spent. I can adjust and tweak my doseage as needed. The pharmacists are the nicest people, at least the ones I have used are. They can be a big help when it comes to finding balance.

a compounded pharmacy?
How's a compounded pharmacy different than a regular pharmacist? Also if so, are they in all states I live in Va. ? I have to use estrace cream for tearing, and also was just diagnosed with lichens sclerosis so I'm on a steroid cream, and I was already losing my hair for a couple yrs. now and now my hair is coming out worse I think it's the steroid cream, (if anyone has any info. about any of this please let me know ) I'm desperate.
