Q: Postpartum Bleeding Getting Heavier Again?
asked by: Zanny on December 9th, 2006

I was told my bleeding should get less and less each day, but recently it's got heavy again.. Really heavy. And I have stomach cramps, it's horrible Sad to make things worse, I also have a headache, and while i'm looking after .Jenny by myself it's pretty tough to stay patient with her. She keeps wanting to sleep on me rather than in her cot, and she cries til I put her onto my chest. I don't want her to make a habit of it, but right now it's better than her crying making my headache worse.

The pains are so bad they're reminiscent of being in labour! Should I call my health visitor/midwife?

Argh this is horrible Sad

I didnt have pains with my bleeding, but...Mine was getting heavier and heavier after 6 weeks, it was bad. I went into the docs office and they put me on the pill. That stopped the bleeding...But what they did first was went up me to make sure there wasnt any placental tissue left, cause that is a possibility.
Since you are having pains and bad bleeding I would def. Go to the doctor, and they may need to check you internally to make sure there isnt any tissue left up there.

.I'm not 100% sure, but .I don't think you should have bad cramps. Slight ones are ok .I believe, but .I would call your midwife just to get her opinion. Looks like .Jenny enjoy's her mommy's company Smile
adriana always wanted to lay down to sleep....So .I'm jealous. Good luck and let us know how things go.

Zanny honey, are you breastfeeding? And how old is .Jenny now?

I continued to have contractions/after-birth pains (whichever you want to call them) when I nursed .Aly for a few weeks. The contractions made me bleed heavier.

Jenny will be 3 weeks old tomorrow. It's scary how quick time has flown!

No i'm not breastfeeding.. Jenny never got the hang of it, even though I did keep trying. I was expressing my milk until a few days ago.. It made my nipples soooo sore even when I put lanolin stuff on them.. And .Jenny's appetite really increased so I couldn't keep up with how much she wanted.

I think i'm gunna have to see my doctor about these pains; they're really bad, and I keep going dizzy. Yuck Sad

Yeah, if you're not breastfeeding, increased cramping is definitely not normal. Call your doctor as soon as you can. And keep us posted as to how you're doing!

Poor girl. *hugs!* Sad

Gosh, it does not seem like .Jenny will be three weeks already! Time goes by too darn fast! Yes, I would recommend that you see your dr about your headaches and your bleeding, I remember bleeding for quite a while after my 1st and heavy until after getting on the pill and I havemigraine headaches every now and then and they are no picnic. Keep us posted. I hope things get better for you!

i stopped bleeding after a month. And on the one month mark, I passed a large piece of placenta. I posted about it..

My Dr. Said it was normal as long as it was coming out and I wasn't feverish.

Call your Dr. Anyways. It never hurts!

Well my midwife came round to see me today, so I asked her about the bleeding and the pain.. And she didn't seem to think the heavy bleeding was serious because i'm not passing any large clots with it.. But the pain isn't normal so I have to see my doctor tomorrow. It's actually a lot better than it was yesterday, so it'll probably be gone by the time I see the doctor.. Typical.

Anyway, she weighed .Jenny while she was here.. And she's now 5lbs 14oz!! She was only 5lbs 3oz on monday.. So she's reeeeally piled it on in the last week! I'm so happy. My poor little munchkin has tummy ache at the moment though; she keeps crying and I can't do anything to make it better Sad

Lay her on her tummy over your lap and gently rub her back - it used to help my son Smile
