A little over three weeks ago I had an abortion. The procedure itself was a success but I had trouble afterwards. Couldn't feel anything, couldn't focus, became pale and out of breath, etc... The nurses told me after I recovered that if I hadn't improved soon I could've actually died. But I improved and things seemed to be going smoothly after that. Until now.

Bleeding is supposed to go on no more than 21 days afterwards. It's been more than 21 days and I started bleeding again 2 days ago during sex. It hasn't stopped yet. It's not heavy but not light either. It's definitely not mentstrual blood. I can tell, that and you're not supposed to start your period until 4 - 8 weeks (hasn't quite been four weeks yet).

Then this morning I woke up feeling excruciating pain in the area around my uterus. It comes in spurts and has been coming for the past five hours, though the amount of spurts has lessened. It's still an immense amount of pain though.

I can only think that this has to do with the abortion. Does anybody know what it is? Could it be an infection maybe?
I go in for my post-abortion checkup later this week, but i'd like to have some clues as to what this is right now.

I work in an abortion clinic, and myself have had an abortion.

Usually they say no sex for 3 weeks because the uterine stimulation can cause pain, cramping and bleeding. If you were going to have an infection it would have happened sooner, normally infections happen within the first 72 hours, if they are going to happen.

I had bleeding for 3 days after my abortion, mostly spotting, and then had some bleeding 3-4 weeks later.

It may be related to sexual activity, it could even be a period, possibly.

If you did not start birth control after your abortion, you could have a period sooner rather than later.

Infections are accompanied by a fever, so take your temp. You could also call and see if they can fit you in earlier.
