Stomach acid rebounds when ulcer bug is cleared
The majority of stomach ulcers are caused by the presence of a microbe called helicobacter pylori (h. Pylori), which in many cases can be eradicated with a combination of antibiotics and a gastric acid suppressor like prilosec (omeprazole).
Now a study has confirmed what some doctors have suspected -- that once h. pylori has been cleared, the stomach produces excess amounts of acid for at least two months after treatment with prilosec.
