Q: Smelly vaginal discharge and birth control
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 8th, 2006
I read one the questions listed before and mine goes a little deeper.. I also just finished my menstrual cycle and have smelliness. But I also have excess discharge that is causing the smell. It is a bothersome amount too. I took the morning after pill just to be safe a couple days ago and it was right after that it started happening. Could it be a side effect of that? Should I be worried and what should I do?

Smelly vaginal discharge is not a side effect of the pill but may be the result of a vaginal infection (colpitis). You can go to your gynecologist for a vaginal examination, a Pap-test and a vaginal smear for microbiology to diagnose and identify the cause.
