Q: Nausea, Dehydration, and Headaches...!
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 7th, 2006
I am exactly 13 weeks and 1 day today. I experience A LOT of sickness during the first 3 months...including dehydration and resulting in weight loss..i'm have been tryin very hard to eat as well as i can and increase my intake of water...though its hard when u are so sick...during the past 2 weeks i started to see a decrease in sickness until this week. I have been suffering from pretty constant sinus headaches and an increase of sickness this week...even when i take my med for nausea. I'm am becoming very frustrated b/c i have an overwhelming feeling of just being tired...but not being able to sleep well. Wasn't sure if the headaches were something to be concerned w/ b/c of the nausea and how i'v been feeling lately. I guess I assumed I would start to feel a little better mentally as well as physically as the pregnancy progressed.

Thank you.

Second Trimester of Pregnancy Answer A1940
Symptoms like nausea and vomiting are typical during the first trimester of pregnancy but they can continue into the second trimester . Further, these symptoms do not equally manifest in all pregnant women. Some women don’t experience nausea/vomiting at all... but for others, the symptoms are so severe (hyperemesis gravidarium) that these women can dehydrate and require medical treatment. Headaches are also common for pregnant women but tend to occur as regularly as for women who are not pregnant. There could be many reasons for a headache to manifest that could/ could not be related with the pregnancy. Headaches could also be a symptom of an anxious-depressive disorder, which is common in pregnant women. Some previous or present conditions such as hypertension, sinusitis, eye disorders etc. can cause headaches in pregnant women. You may consult your obstetrician about your issues and seek professional medical advice.
