GOT and GPT are enzymes (transaminases) that increase in the blood whenever there is tissue damage in the body. They are mostly present in liver tissue but are not unique to liver damage. Rather, elevated GOT and GPT levels indicate damage to any organ in the body. During lupus, many organs (heart, liver, kidneys, skin, joints, brainâ¦) are damaged and GOT and GPT are elevated. Decreasing of GOT and GPT could indicate disease remission.
