Q: Severe nasal congestion
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 7th, 2006
Ok, I have this problem for a couple years now.
Every time it's winter I get respiratory problems.
Like when it's really cold.
I did a blood test, x-rays for my chest & nose...All nothing!!
So I went to a nose specialist and he told me I have a mild rhinitis(not enough to operate).
That was last year.
So this winter it's back again.
I'm going back to my nose specialist on the 22nd of jan.
Sometimes at night I can't sleep cuz I can't breathe.
Even when I take a shower it gets worse.
Today i'm gonna try that vicks humidifier machine.
it's not asthma neither.
please help me if u can.
thx in advance!

You can always try to breath through your mouth instead of your nose while you sleep. Additionally, you can use a decongestant nose drops to relieve the discomfort in the nose. Decongestant drops can only relieve the nose congestion, but not the disease. For real treatment you'll need a correct diagnosis, first. “Mild rhinitis” is not a complete diagnosis. Nose inflammation (rhinitis) can be acute or chronic. Both of the major types, acute and chronic rhinitis, are subdivided in several types which have different etiologies, duration, therapies and prognoses. You should consult an ENT-specialist for a precise diagnosis and to seek proper therapy.
