Rough Evenings

The last three evenings ava's been
sleeping for 10 minutes then waking up
crying, then she acts like she's hungry
every hour, but only takes about 2 oz.
Sometimes it puts her to sleep, sometimes
it doesn't. If it does put her to sleep,
she wakes up about 10 minutes later. It
lasts from about 4 to 11 then she'll sleep
for 4-5 hours until her next bottle and
then sleep again for 4-5 hours. I don't
know what's wrong.
It's like she's fighting her sleep.
Help!

My .S.I.L is going through the same
thing.
Call her dr and see what he/she thinks it
could be.
Maybe colic?

Finn was like that for the past 3 weeks.
He would fight sleep and stay awake for 8
hours at a time and it was ugly. Nothing
I did soothed him and I was so stressed
out. I just chalked it up to colic and
dealt with it but he's been so much better
these past few days.
Hopefully this is just a short phase and
ava will be better soon. Do you think it
could have anything to do with moving her
out of your bed?

The doctor said that it was colic, but it
just started three days ago, so I guess I
was in denial hoping it wasn't. I hope
it goes away soon. I don't know what's
the deal with her wanting a 2 oz. Bottle
every hour though. That's ridiculous and
exhausting having to fix a bottle every
hour.

She doesn't want a bottle. It's the only
thing that calms her down though....But it
will eventually turn into comfort feedings
and that ain't good.
If you're feeling a bit overwhelmed, call
your .Dr and talk to him about medications
to help calm your nerves. Cuz we all know
how crazy we can go when our baba won't
stop screaming

Okay, here I go again...
There is no such thing as "colic".
Babies cry for a reason. Whether it be
acid reflux, a milk protein-soy protein
intolerance, and ear infection,
whatever.
Babies dont just cry for the hell of it.
My son did things like that before I found
out he had acid reflux and his esophogus
was burning him from all the acid coming
up. So basically he couldnt eat much at
once because his throat hurt everytime he
swallowed. His stomach also hurt because
he is intolerant to milk and soy
protein-which many babies are. If I were
you I would try to do some research.
Obviously your child is in some kind of
discomfort.
Our ped said that 99% of "colic" was
actually reflux or milk-soy protein
intolerance (or allergy), which my son has
both.

I mean, every child is different. As is
every dr's prescription...
I always had .Nana on soy...So she never
gave me any "colic" type behaviors. But,
I don't know if it's because of the soy,
or because of the baba.
Talk to your dr to find out if there is
any underlying issues that might be
misdiagnosed as colic.
There is a book, "the best baby on the
block". You should look into it. It
explains a lot of unknown things about
colic and the reasons baba's have it.
It also says how any gas medicne is waste
of money. Warm water has the same effect
on the bowels as the meds.

Well it only happens in the evening, she
goes 3-4 hours without a bottle during the
night and day time hours. If it would be
the milk she'd do it all the time. We
went to the Dr. Today and she doesn't
have an ear infection or anything like
that wrong with her. If I bounce in
front of the faucet she's quiet. Tonight
I gave her a bath and gave her a noonie
and she slept for two hours instead of ten
minutes. In my motherly opinion from the
time i've spent with my baby day and night
I think she just can't calm herself down
enough to go to sleep. The bath really
helped her.

My baby did the same thing for weeks and
it was a nightmare - I really sympathise
with you! It will get better though, it'
s only temporary. I found that my son
would sleep better if he was sat upright
and the best way I found to achieve that
was to have him sleep in his car seat!
It was one of those detachable ones. I
asked my midwife about it because I was
worried about the .S.I.D.S risk of him not
sleeping on his back but she said it would
be fine, as long as he wasn't in the car
seat all day long as well as at night.
He slept right through the night once I
started putting him in there. Also, I
found he liked it if I put the radio next
to him, on a low volume, with the 'white
noise' of between stations so it was going
'shhhhhhhhh'. It really soothed him.

I never thought of the radio noise.
That's a good idea since she loves the
faucet.

there is such a thing as colic but colic
is most often a symptom of something
else.
Colic is intestinal pain and colic killed
my horse - trust me colic exists.
But in babies intestinal pain is a symptom
not a cause - usually.
Find and treat the cause - not the
symptom.

Kia - totally off topic but you probably
know: is it true that horses can't vomit?
