Coffee??
Posted: 02-02-04 23:22pm

Hello everyone, I am new here! Just want to let everyone know who I am and ask a couple questions. We just started trying to have a baby this month (and I am late on my period already). Kind of excited to find out if I am pregnant or not, but don't want to get my hopes up to high. I have always worried that I wouldn't be able to have children. I am 24 now. Wouldn't that be something if I worried all these years, and turn out pregnant on the first try. Anyway, i'm sorry, I don't want to get into that just yet. I do have a question. I head coffee isn't good for you when pregnant. Why is that? What else isn't good for you? I do drink a lot of coffee, and wondering if this could cause problems. Also we have 4 cats, and I always hear its bad to be around the litter, why is that? Can I keep my cats?? I would hate to need to part with them. Wow, I feel so concerned and worried about trying. I want to make sure I am not doing anything that will cause problems to my child. Thanks for any input you might have for me. And I am sure I will post if I am pregnant. Baby dust for all of you who are trying to have a baby!! God bless!!

Coffee is not good for you to drink while you are pregnant because it contains caffine and caffine causes your heart and the babys heart rate to raise dramatically. More so the baby's than yours. As far as the cat litter goes. You shouldn't have to get rid of your cats. It something in the cat's urine I believe (could be feces) that when it mixes with litter it makes a toxic smell or something. Being in the same household won't harm your baby. Just don't keep the litter box in a room you are in often. If you can have someone else change the litter do so. If you cannot, you should go to the hardware store and buy like those masks that look like doctors masks. I believe they are painting masks. And just put one on while changing the cat litter. Then wash your hands immediatley. I have several family members who have changed their own cats litter and had 6 healthy children. They basically just don't want you to inhale the scent which can cause birth defects. But please don't freak out... I know I did to at first about cat litter when I visited ppls houses. But it won't cause harm if it is in your house.

Cats...
Posted: 02-03-04 01:16am

Well actually I am in the room where the litter is kept most of the time. Kind of a tight place here. Do you think there is much harm if litter is kept clean often enough? We always keep it clean, but I am concerned here. My baby's health comes first, but these cats mean a lot to us. One of I have for almost 3 years now. Sad well thanks, I guess when I get tested in another week (asuming my period doesn't come) then I will ask my doc. These questions. Smile just thought I would see what others said on here. And I will stay away from coffee from now on. Is there anything else I should stay away from? I do have asthma, and my medication causes high heart rate. I havn't been using it that much, but I guess I will have to talk to my doc about that too. Thanks again.

I Have Lots of Info For You
Posted: 02-04-04 00:37am

Spunky,
first of all I am 15weeks and 2 days preggy. I hope everything turns out like you want it. Now I have all sorts of info. For you. About the coffee I got this from my book called your pregnancy week-by-week. Wrote by glade b. Curtis, md, facog.
The coffe, as little as 4 cups of coffee(800mg of caffeine) a day has been associated with a decreased birth weight and a smaller head size in newborns. Also drinking up to 8 cups of coffee a day(1600mg of caffeine) has been associated in a woman's ability to get pregnant.
Now about the cats only if your cats carry a disease called toxoplasmosis. It says that it is rare, but to prevent it, avoid changing or cleaning the cat's liter box and yes they were right it is spread through humans by cat droppings. You could get your man to do that for you, lol. They also say that raw or poorly cooked meat is another cause of the disease. So we do have lots to watch for. The cat information I got from the healthy beginnings pamplet that they give you to answer questions you have.
Good luck spunky,

Also it is a good idea to keep cats off of counters, where you sleep, and any furniture I believe they can spread tox. When they use the litter box and then walk around.I wouldn't have it in the main room you are in.
It is good to keep caffine down to a cup aday.
I wish you lots of luck!!

Coffee...
Posted: 02-04-04 02:47am

Oh wow, I really had no idea that coffee could do that! I was drinking about 4 at the most a day. But for the last 2-3 weeks when I drink coffee it makes me sick to my stomach, so I really havn't been drinking it much anyway. I did have 2 small 4oz cups yesterday, but I will not be drinking any from here on out!! Just to be on the safe side. I really have no idea if I am even pregnant. My bf (no we are not married, and I hope no one bothers me with this, we did choose to produce this child though) seems to be sure I am pregnant and says I am in denial. Hehe we will see though. But baby dust to you all, and good luck to all you mothers to be!! I look forward to all the help and saport from this forum. Thanks again for all the info! I had no idea!! Shocked

Af Passed
Posted: 02-05-04 21:50pm

Actually my last period was dec. 29th, so af passed already. I'm so concerned though. My bf is sure I am pregnant from the symtoms I am having, but the night before last I got a cramp in my left hip/butt, and last night it was feeling sore and crampy. Even my abdomin was feeling crampy, also my lower/middle back. Today I think I am seeing light spotting, which is really so light that I am unsure. As I sit in this chair my lower back is beginning to feel sore, and I feel slightly crampy again like I am about to start my period. I felt this 2 weeks ago when I was more expecting it, but never got it. I am so scared and worried. But it is our first month trying, so I can't really expect to be. Anyway, I will go to the doc this week if I havn't gotten af by then. Baby dust too you all!

Waiting For Af
Posted: 02-13-04 09:39am

Yes the doc put me on the med to start my af b/c my last real one was dec 10. Then spotting in mid-january. So satarted provera late january for 10 days trying to get af. My last day was last saturday and they said it would take 2-10 days for af to come. I was hoping it would be here by now b/c it has been almost a month since we have tried. But couldn't while on med and now since I am trying to get af I should be bding. So that stinks Mad

i just am thinking too much I think... At least that is what other people say. Once you stop thinking things will happen for you.
