Q: Spotting weeks after my period
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 6th, 2006
I had my last menstrual cycle starting from nov.20 until the 24th.
At that time they weren't as heavy and didn't really last as long as they usually do.
Then a couple days ago ( mon, it's now weds). i started to spot a little.
A brownish color. Not very dark but kinda light.
I'm a little concerned, i've only had sex once last month ( Nov ) and that was a whole week before my last period.
I went to the doctor's thinking it was something to do with my kidneys, but the urine sample taken indicated nothing.
I didn't have a pregnancy test done though, and i'm slightly confused about this whole situation. Please help! Do you think this is something serious and i should be worried?
Thank you kindly
Pamela

Early Pregnancy Signs and Symptoms Answer A1915
To begin, you would have been better off visiting a gynecologist rather than a general practice doctor. Spotting after a period is not a sign of pregnancy, but you can take a home pregnancy test in any case. Spotting can be caused by functional or organic bleeding. Functional spotting is due to some type of hormonal imbalance. Organic spotting is attribute to infection, tumor etc. You can request a gynecologist to identify the true cause and nature of the symptoms.
