Q: HSV Infection, UTI, and spotting...
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 6th, 2006
I have always had a normal monthly cycle however, last month I started spotting a week early, I bled for a day and continued to spot for about a month.
I also had a fever of 102 I thought it was the flu and I thought one had nothing to do with the other.
I went to the ER as a self pay patient. No insurance,
They sent me home wth a massive UTI and couldn't tell me what was causing the light bleeding. I don't have the money for further testing.
My boyfriend has symptoms of herpes hed got Valtrex, his tests won't be in until next week.
I have no symptoms so I'm confused. ounld that be causing my problem? I've had pelvic exams but no Pap tests. Thanks for your time.

Herpes simplex virus (HSV) can’t cause a urinary tract infection, but it can cause a genital infection. Genital infections (vulvitis and vaginitis) with HSV manifest with vaginal discharge, skin/mucosa lesions that itch and are painful, swollen inguinal lymph nodes, and fever. Vaginal bleeding (spotting) is not typical for an HSV-infection. Spotting could be due to some other genital infection, a polyp, or myoma. You have to visit your gynecologist for a vaginal examination, colposcopy with Pap-test, and a vaginal ultrasound.
