Q: Is It the Same?

Here in quebec the government is really picky with naming your kid. My sil was told she could not spell her son's name deecon (usually deacon) and another friend of mine wanted to put ~ over the a in thomas but they did not want to let her either. My sil finally got them to agree by signing a paper saying she wouldn't ever change his name.

With trey I wanted his name to be michael-trey and they did not allow the - . I find it very weird that my government wants to tell us how to name our kids. Is it like that anywhere else??

I know in ontario a guy I know wanted to give his son only one letter for a middle name and they did not want to let him. But there was a big sad story behind it apparently and he went and told them the story and they let him. I don't know the story though.

It is weird that the government cares what babies are named.

Shocked .I think that's ridiculous. You can name your kid anything you want here in the states. Hence why our celebs are naming their kids words that they probably made up or something.... Lol, but .I think the parents (no matter what the name is or how its spelled) should have complete say over what they name their own child. If someone tried to tell me that .I could name my child what .I wanted to, .I'd clock them right in the face &tell them to shove off. Haha.

Canada can never control how you state your name or what not.. I mean I dont know canada law or anything like that but you can sue them for being in wayyy too far in control for parent who have their babies and they cant name them..

My son have 2 different middle name.. Its john-william and if I was living up in quebec.. I would seriously ignored what they were saying and if they got a problem.. Take them to a bigger state where they dont really want a fight lol.. Im sure theres alot of parent that doesnt like the law .. And really want to fight their freedom of how they want to name their child and what not.

I totally agree.. It is unfair.. But when you go to new york or something.. medical question them.. Write your sons name how you want it to be lol .. Who cares.. Or teach your son how to write his name ... The way you want it to be. Lol .. I wouldnt give a crap about them.

Ppl are intimidated by the gov't.. Actually I think the gov't should be intimidated by thousands of parent who really are angry with them.

That isn't right in my opinion. What if you wanted to use both last names, say your and yours and the father of the baby with a slash in between, I use that with my maiden and my married name with a slash between both. Your country might really sh*t with my dr as one of his son's middle name is the same as his wives maiden name which is black which is different but it is their choice. My .Mom's middle name was .Florence but she did not like it and she had it changed legally to .K beings it was the 1st letter of her maiden name.I think you should have a right to name and spell your baby's name whatever you want as long as it is not cruel.

Serious?
I never knew that happens in quebec! Interesting, yet I would find it extremely irritating. I am a bit oppositional defiant, so although I am normally boring with names, I would probably push the envelope with the government just to see how much I could get away with. I would pick a very "out there" name and try to convince them why my child "needed" to have it. If it didn't work, I would try something else until I got my way. This is probably the reason why I sucked at public school.- hated being told what to do and is probably the reason why teachers couldn't stand me (now I work in a school with kids who were just like me - go figure).

Wow, to me public school was a lot better than private. I started out at private and went 8 years of my life. Then I changed to public and they were so much more lenient (sp)

then I switched back to private (my family moved around a lot)

u had to wear a belt with your pants or else you got detention, couldn't wear more than one ear ring in each ear, couldn't wear make up, couldn't have your skirt up to a certain length (had to be past your finger tips) and the list goes on! I was so thankful to switch back to public lol

Sorry Completely Off Topic!!!
I said public school because I wanted to avoid saying college. It can sound so snubbery online ... If snubbery is even a word? I did do much better in college because I was paying for it; I had to force myself to conform to what the teachers wanted in order to make the grade - it was so irritating.

Concerning school, it's interesting that in some districts in phoenix az the kids do have to wear uniforms with belts. Probably because the kids were wearing the pants a little long. This rule just made the kids rebel. The teachers had to be very strict with the kids....I ignored because it had nothing to do with education (unless the boys were wooing the girls who were in short skirts). Also my role was not a discipinarian - I was not, am not a teacher. They were pretty strict with short and skirt length as well. A few girls were sent home for having shorts a little too short. We are not talking daisy dukes just shorts two inches above your knees.

I went to private school for the first three years in life. During my first five minutes in public school - 4th grade - a boy came up to me and said you are a f***ing b****, out of the blue! Wow that was a shock! Welcome to the real world! The boy ended up being in my class and was thrown in a trash bin by a teacher the next school year for swearing up a storm to him. I wonder what ever happened to willie. He was a nice kid, really. You just had to learn a whole other vocabulary to comprehend him.

Sorry, complete off topic tangent!! It is late and I am tired and hungry again. This will be my 3rd dinner tonight. How much can an only 8 week pregnant person eat? At this rate I will gain 100 pounds before baby. Perhaps it's psychological right now.
