Q: Retinal Tear And Systemic Disorders?

Hello,
a few years ago I had a retinal tear- which basically means that there was a tear inside my eye- this resulted in blood spots (floaters) floating in the gel inside my eye, which blurred my vision.

The doctors had no ideas what caused the tear. They mainly asked me if I had bumped my head at anytime, as this sometimes can be the cause of such problems.

However I have just read that some systemic disorders such as sickle cell disease can cause problems of this sort. I do not have sickle cell disease or disorder- however I do have sickle cell trait. Which is not consistent with the concept of retinal tears.

So my questions is can my sickle cell trait be responsible for the tear in my retina and more importantly can expect more of these??

Retinal Tear
Two weeks ago on the way to home I had the same sudden blurred vision in my right-eye and found out that I had retinal detachment!! I donit have high-blood pressure, no cholestrol, no diabetics and nobody have in my sibilings of 8. i am 52 yrs old and a educator. By surgery they sucked the blood out and corrected the retina, am recovering slowly, the visison is coming out. Still I have the gas bubbles they put in the eye. My doctors says it is my birth defect, most probably I might have the same problem in other eye, so he says he can correct it earlier.
