I've read a ton of forums, so I know the standard medical based reply to this is "if the test is negative, you're likley not pregnant"

what i'd really like to know is this.
Has anyone had or known someone who has had nothing but negative hpt's only to have a doctor tell them weeks past their af due date that they are?

My doctor won't see me until dec 11th at the earliest if af doesn't show up. My normal cycle is 40-42 days. I've been off bcp for 4 months, having only taken it a year. My chart (using opk's) shows that I o'd on cd18. We bd'd on cd17 (also on cd20 & cd36). It's 2:55am here on nov 30, cd42. Short of having an unusual pressure in the pelvic region and the occasion twinge of discomfort near my right ovary I have had nothing that I can say is abnormal. Usually a week before af I have a few days of mood swings, a back ache, and tender breasts. I have had no af symptoms, no "normal" pg symptoms.

I know I have to wait it out, just wanted to share with someone new and see what their feed back was.

Thanks.

I'm with you. I've been told, yes, it can happen (false negatives.) most doctors wont see you till you have missed two periods. My "normal" cycle if you can call it that is 34 days and i've been off bcp since may i'm currently on cd65 if I don't have a period on monday i'm calling my doctor.
Don't know what she will say but I want to know what is going on.

I just don't get why doctors would make you wait so long. If a person is concerned about they're health and wants a test done, they should at least have a consultation about it. Not just say "no, wait two months". By then something could go wrong! I'm not a worry wart, it just irritates me. I guess i'm lucky that my doctors are good about me coming in. He would have seen me last week, but I really wasn't considered late yet, and he really wants me to wait it out. So i'm stifling my impatient side and waiting.

I don't want to go in and have him say there's a problem with a cyst.
Here's to hoping we both get what we want!

My sisters sister in law never got a positive hpt, she was 8 or 12 wks along when she finally convinced her dr to do a blood test and ultrasound.

It's common for women to skip or be late on a period, so one missed period is rarely anything to be concerned about.

If you have pain, cramping or other symptoms then do see your doctor, but a single skipped period is neither here nor there.

I've had two cysts rupture, one at age 16 and one last year. So while one missed period for most women may be of no concern in kia's opinion, in some it is.

I'm going in on thursday for blood work and an ultrasound. If i'm not pregnant he wants to see if there's a cyst interferring with my hormones. Unlike most doctors mine is not waiting a year to see if I get pregnant on my own. If i'm not pregnant by march we're going to do some investigating and go from there.

I'm kind of between a rock and a hard place. It's either take medication now for high cholesterol and forget about getting pregnant, or try to get pregnant and put off taking the medication. The longer we wait the higher risk I become for having a heart attack. I can thank my family's dna for that.

I'm still here waiting with you today is cd69 and nothing. I took a hpt this morning and it was a bfn (big fat negative) Sad

skipping one period can be a problem if it happens repetitively. For me this is my 3rd skipped period since may 1st (when I stopped bc) and the first one happened the 3rd month after I stopped so it most likely had nothing to do with the fact that I stopped bc. As of today (if I make it through the whole day with out af, I really am unsure if I feel like she is coming or not.) I will have skipped 2 in a row!!!

I'm going in for a pap on the 12th and i'll be talking with my doctor then.

Terpamber & keytee - I am right along with you ladies....Irregualr cycles and wondering what the heck is going on with my body that is!!!
I can't believe your doctors won't see you and run tests though. I know we all have to wait until it's been one year of ttc until you can see a fertility specialist, but your doctor should be able to give you blood tests and send you for an ultrasound - at least that's what mine did and only after 5 months coming off the bcp!!! Maybe canada is alot different than the us (if that's where you're from???).
I am on cd31 today, but usually my af's have been about 50-51 days apart. My doctor said that the average woman's body can take anywhere from 3-6 months to regulate itself after stopping the bc pill b/c it needs to "learn" how to ovulate on it's own, but I am now on month 7, and still no sign of it becoming regular. Also sounds like you ladies are in the same boat! I did start taking ovulex, so I am hoping that it may help a bit. I tried taking some herbal supplements from my health store to see if it would balance my hormones, but they didn't seem to work Sad
all of my tests came back normal, so now I play the waiting game to see if my af's regulate, if I even am ovulating or if I one day get pregnant! I hate this waiting game, and terpamber - I can only imagine how you feel at cd69!!! I hope that you either get af soon, or get a bfp!!!!!
If you ladies find anything that seems to help or work, please share your secrets!!! Lol Smile I am praying that I won't fall pray to the small percentage of women who take years to become pregnant, and there is nothing wrong with them??!!!!
Good luck and baby dust to us!

Cd47 and waiting.

Even though i've had the cyst issue, my cycles have always been like clockwork. 42 days before bcp, 28 on bcp. They went back to normal right after stopping the bcp 4 months ago, so it's really frustrating right now.

I can't wait for thursday to get here so the dr can confirm it one way or the other. I have a tinsy bit of hope he'll say "yes, you are". But i'm keeping it real in my head that i'm not and we'll find out what's keep af away.

Sorry to ask again, as I know you have probably already posted this info, but did you come off bc lately? Do you have pcos or anything of the sorts? (sorry - my mind is not working properly the past few days!!! Laughing )

Sad I saw Dr. Z today and the result was not good news. No bfp for me. Which really wasn't all that shocking. I had that tiny bit of hope, but I knew in my heart that I wasn't.

So, now I have to get up at the crack of dawn for a 9am appt with Dr. A (ob/gyn) who will be doing a series of bloodwork and ultrasound. Dr. Z advised in my records that i'll need to take provera to bring on af and Dr. A will take it from there. (my pcp and ob are in the same office building, makes it soooo much easier for me not to have to remember to tell them what the other is treating me for...It's all in my records.) so, anywho. I guess after saturday I should know , hopefully, what's causing the delay, whether it's just an anov cycle or if it's a cyst or what.
I think it's strange though that an opk would detect and lh surge if there was no ovulation...Or is that possible?

I count myself lucky to have an ob that's concerned enough to not make me wait a year of heartbreaking attempts before investigating problems. I'll be 32 next month and I don't want to waste the next 3 years trying with no idea why it's not happening. (after 35 i'd be in high risk category due to genetically rec'd cholesterol disorder)

jae & terpamber - it's so nice to share this with someone who's familiar with the frustration. Thank you.

Ahh hun....I wish you all the best of luck with your doc's app't . I will be thinking of you and hoping that it's something simple and easy to solve, with no stress to you.
I hear you about the waiting game. I will be 31 in a 3 months and i've been told that if I am not pregnant by may'07, my doctor will be sending me and the hubby to a fertility specialist. I thought this life process of getting pregnant and having a little one would be so much easier!!! I feel so young still (ok, well, we are. Lol!!) but to have to go to a specialist already, makes me feel older, you know?!
I'm not sure why your opk would detect the surge.....But hopefully you are ovulating and there's nothing wrong. Maybe a good dose of the provera will kick your body in gear and it will work itself out?!
Will they put you on clomid if they think you are not ovulating? (to make you start?) also, ask about metformin......Some of the other ladies here have used this and have had some good results from it. Just a thought?!
Keep us posted and again, I hope all is well and healthy!!!!
I am on cd35 and playing the waiting game. Ho hum, ho hum!

Back from my appt. No sign of a cyst. Yay! But no obvious reason for af not showing up either except that I probably didn't ovulate. They took two vials of blood to run tests on, they'll call if anything shows up abnormal. For now it's 7 days of provera then another appt and bloodwork "exactly 3 weeks" after cd1.

I just officially joined the ranks of medicated ttc-ers. And the bonus...I gave the pharmacy my medical card through my husbands work to add to my own. With mine I would have had big copay, with his I didn't have to pay a dime for my prescription!

Yay...Glad to hear that they found no cyst(s)!!!!!! I hope that the provera works for you?! That's what they said to me as to why my af's were so far apart....That maybe I didn't ovulate. Weeelllll, i'd really like for my body to start doing that now!!!! Lol Smile
keep me posted as to how your next blood test goes. It sounds like they will be testing your progesterone levels at 3 weeks (approx. Cd20'ish) to see if in fact you are ovulating, however, that's usually based on someone whol has a 28-30 day cycle, so perhaps ask about that when you go?? Just a thought!
Good luck...I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Sorry didn't mean to be ignoring you i've been out of the office and we don't have internet at home (were never home so it would be a big waste of money)

i still have no af and i'm trying reallly hard to convince myself i'm not pregnant, but I just can't it's really quite frustrating. Tmw I have a certification test and then my pap, I don't even know what to say to the lady except "i've skipped two and all bfns" luckly i've been keeping good records.

Keytee glad you didn't have a cyst! Sorry everything is so screwy

jaemierin are they testing you to see if you o? Have you?

Hi! Still no af yet huh? Well, I hope that the doctor can tell you a little more once you go in or perhaps put you on something to get it going!?

Sorry if you have told me this already, but are you currently taking any meds to get af, or to o?

I thought I ovulated a couple of days ago, but I have no idea now, b/c my temps are still a little low. If I were to get af on x-mas day, then technically, today should be my o day?? I almost give up Rolling Eyes
if I don't have somewhat regular af's by jan, which at this point I know I won't, then I have to go back into the doctor and he said that he would put me on something to get my af's back to normal and to ovulate. Clomid is illegal in canada, so i'm not sure what we have here that is similar - but i'll keep you posted on that!

Currently on cd38 and no sign of af - but like I said, if it's another 51 days like last cycle, then it's not due until x-mas day! I have had some very slight cramping over the past few days, and bb's are quite sore today, so not quite sure that to think of that???!!!

If no af comes, then I will be testing on the 29th or so. Keep your fingers crossed for me!!!!!!!

Hope all goes well at the doc's tmw.....Keep me posted k?!
Good luck Wink

Terpamber - how'd your dr's appt go?

Jae - i'm crossing my fingers for you!

I'm on my last day of provera, so hopefully in the next 3-7 days af will show up and then I wait another 3 weeks before going for more bloodwork.
