Hey folks.

I've been having symptoms lately, that occured over the last vew months, of hypoglycemia. I'd get shakey, sweaty, hungry, angry, and eat, and it'd go away.

However, i'm wondering if this is actually diabetes as I have some of the symptoms associated with that including, and most trouble some, frequent urination. I've had this frequent urination problem for years now. Since I was about 11. Antibiotics didn't work. Blood tests came back fine, doctors were puzzled so I just dealt with it. I thought it was just a recuring bladder infection, but when I researched the symptoms, they didn't match.

I also get blurred vision sometimes which I can only get rid of by blinking excessively. I also have blackspots and little string like things in my eyes that follow my eye movements. I started developing these about a year or 2 ago.

I also have frequent thirst. About the same time as the eye problems started, I also started waking up every night as I needed a drink. Waking up in the night for a drink was unusual for me. But yet, every single night now, for about 2 years, i've woken up thirsty, several times every night, so now, I always have to keep a drink by my bed. I tend to get thursty alot during the day too and usually always have a drink by my side.

I also get things like unexplained leg/arm pains which i've heard is a symptoms of diabetes.

And I have been very weak and tired for about 2 years now. Back when I was about 14/15 (im 17) the doctors were doing all sorts of tests on me as I was so tired all the time. Again, came up with nothing. Eventually, that episode of tiredness passed, but I still get really tired. Things like coming home from college every day (only half day too) have me falling asleep on the couch when I get home if I don't do something to stay awake. At 17, I don't think I should be falling asleep on the couch after half a day in college, although, I do have bad sleeping patterns and often stay awake too long, so this could be a result of that

but I don't know which I have. It's so confusing I have pretty much an equal amount of symptoms for both hypo and diabetes.

Diabetes would explain the frequent urination/blurred vision, but I seem to get symptoms of hypo pretty much daily.

I don't like going to the doctors until I know what's wrong with me. I have a phobia of doctors so it freaks me out going there if I havn't got a clue whats wrong with me. I start thinking all sorts. If I have some idea what's wrong with me, even if i'm not right, it puts my mind at rest and I feel alot more relaxed.

Does anyone know what it is I have? And is there anyway I can tell which one I have before I go to the docs for confirmation?

Thanks!

It's weird, i'm also 17 and I had similar symptoms.

At one stage I drank a lot and urinated often (it was nearly totally clear). I had a hypoglycemic attack after I skipped breakfast once; it was scary as. Now I have a mild burning sensation on the sole of my feet.

Anyway, i'm not overweight; the doctors said that my bmi is just right and that they didn't think I had diabetes... I'm going to get tested soon - i'm not very good under exam conditions though ;p

if you're not overweight, you should be fine. The type of diabetes you are refering to sounds like type 2, which occurs mainly in morbidly obese adults. If it wa type 1, which is genetic, you would have had a hypoclycemic attack (with fainting) that you wouldn't be able to recover from whitout medical assistance. Type 2 is just a delayed production of effective iodine, while type one doesn't produce any iodine.
