I can get an erection fine, it's maintaining one that causes a problem. It will just go limp during sex. I'm in my 20s, and have had this problem for a few years now, but been too ashamed to seek help. Can this be fixed? If so, am I going to have to take pills for the rest of my life? I don't have a doctor right now, what is the best way to find a doctor near me who could treat this?

I've had the same problem for years accented by excessive pre-ejaculate (aka precum flooding.) i've been to doctors and have pretty much come to the conclusion that it really is mostly psychological. Unfortunately taking viagra is the only way I can get around the problem. I had no success with either levitra nor cialis (which I found odd.) even with viagra I have the problem with excessive pre-ejaculate which drains my sex drive. I am still capable of having intercourse, however. You can determine if the problem is most likely psychological by eliminating other possible causes:

1. Many types of medication have sexual side-effects. Are you on any types of medication? If so, what are you taking?

2. How long has the problem lasted? Have you ever been able to achieve an adequate erection during sex?

3. Can you achieve a proper erection when you masturbate? Do you ever get nocturnal erections or wake up with an erection in the morning? If so this indicates things are likely working properly physically.

Do you have any diseases (such as diabetes) or have you sustained any injuries to your genital area? Get back with your answers to all the questions so I can tell you what I know and hopefully help you out. I've noticed that it's very difficult to get help on topics such as these around here and since i'm suffering from a similar problem i'd really like to resolve this. You see hundreds of responses in the "how big is your penis?!?!" threads and very few (or often none) in threads that actually matter such as this. Although i'm not a doctor i've slowly been making progress and I have been to a few urologists as well as a psychologist (which didn't help me.) it would be great to achieve an erection completely naturally and although i'm still bothered by the precum flooding i've learned to live with taking viagra. I'm still hoping I can cure myself eventually, however. I feel like i'm making progress and would be glad to pass on what i've learned over the past couple months.

Thanks for the reply. Here's the answers to your questions:

1) no medications
2) about 4 years. Yes, I have no problem achieving an erection. I encounter one of two problems: either it goes limp after a few minutes into intercourse, or I ejaculate prematurely. The few times I have had an erection last through intercourse, I was pretty drunk, which seems strange. Also it should be noted I have fewer problems sustaining an erection through oral sex.
3) yes, I can achieve an erection through masturbation, but I have had the same results occasionally. I do seem to have problems with premature ejaculation even through masturbation sometimes. No nocturnal emissions or waking up erect, that I can remember.

No injuries to the genitalia. I have a family history of diabetes, but as far as I know, I do not have it.

I know my best option is to see a doctor. As i've said before, I don't have a family doctor. Should I see a regular physician or go straight to a urologist? When choosing one, do I just pick a name out of the phone book, or is there a research method I should be using. Thanks for your help, as i'm sure you understand, this has been a very difficult situation for me.

This is definitely something you should have checked out - I really don't have an answer at this point. I'd probably skip the family doctor and go straight to a urologist. Your family doctor wouldn't be able to tell you much and would likely just refer you to a urologist anyway. You could just pick one out of the phone book...Or you could contact your family doctor and ask for a recommendation.

It sounds to me like this could be a physical problem that is amplified psychologically. Meaning there could be something physically wrong...Which is causing anxiety making things even worse. This would explain why sometimes you can masturbate or receive oral sex - you're not as worried about performing which redudes your level of anxiety.

I'd see a doctor - this probably isn't something that will just go away on its own.

Hey guys, I think I also may have ed at a very young age. I'm currently 19 but I have this problem ever since I was a kid. When my penis "erects", it gets longer, harder, but limp. It doesn't rise. I'm afraid to tell anyone to help me visit a urologist. So, do I just enter a hospital and ask for a urologist? I hope it won't be expensive as I will be paying for my own fees.

Thanks for any reply

could be venous leaks. You really should see a urologist.
Unfortunatly, ive also suffered from a young age and things seem to be getting worse.

The only solution for myself now are ed pills.

Good luck

yes thats right.

The worst test I had was they stuck a needle in my penis with a dye substance to measure the flow and outflow of blood to see if blood was "leaking". Im sure they wont do that do u the first time round. Dont worry.

Anyway there are several other tests which I had too. A 3 day sleep test when they put some measure device to see if I had "sleep" erections...

Make sure your urologists doesnt say its all in your mind ! If he says that I strongly urge u to see another one. Because of the age issue, many times doctors think you only want these pills for social use, which was my case.

10 years on these doctors finally believe me, but your real option is to use viagra, levitra or cialis.

Good luck !

Oh man... I hate going through tests. Are the tests and pills expensive? I'm going to pay for my own since I can't really tell my parents about this issue. Maybe when I have enough money by next year I might finally visit a urologist. Thanks for the reply

well depends if your government reimburses you or not.

As for the 3 day sleep test, that was 100% free.
Any dealings with a urologist is always expensive. . Sad

I'm going to see a urologist maybe next year. I hope I get a good urologist and not trick me into buying anything just for the sake of buying stuff from him. I'm afraid the doc might trick me because i'm just 19 years old. Anyway, prelude, have you had any side effects with taking viagra? I'm scared of the side effect losing vision.

There are some natural remedies you can try. Cayenne pepper greatly increases circulation and garlic is known for strengthening the main nerve responsible for maintaining an erection, as well as increasing hormone production. Before you become pill dependent, you may want to try some simple, cheap alternatives. It's always the best option before going on medication. If it doesn't work, fine, then try it, but don't just jump straight into pill-taking.

Ed At a Young Age
That's a bummer for such a young man. I am 78 and don't take any medications (prescription drugs) and I have had ed for years until I found a combination of 2 inexpensive products that have increased my testosterone and libedo. I tried viagra etc. But could not take the flushing effect plus the cost. If you want to know more about what I take just email me at [do not post email addresses on public forums - thanks moderator] they are both commercial products available on line.

i know you can get garlic capsules, is it possible to get cayenne pepper in capsule form? I'd never heard of this one!

19 hey. Thats when I started noticing problems myself too.

As for side effects viagra: - yes. The main one is a stuffy nose. As for bad vision, only had some blurriness when I took a bit too much, but nothing long term.

Cialis - get back lower back pains.

Im sure the doctor wont trick you into buying anything, but may suggest some ed pills.

Just stay positive, enjoy life, appreciate what you already have.

Good luck with everything. I know how hard it is.

Another followup question...I'm pretty sure my health insurance doesn't cover sexual dysfunctions, so how much (on average) will a visit to a urologist cost me?

reduced blood flow to the penis and nerve damage are the most common causes of ed. Psychological, neurological, hormonal factors also may induce ed.

A book I just read covered how to solve ed without using drugs. Scientifcally guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex.

He addresses it by giving your body what it needs to produce all the precursors and components necessary for erections, such as nitric oxide. It lists supplements and or whole foods which will contain the building blocks necessary.

Of course there are herbal viagras, but I think it's always best to give your body the nutrition it needs for something and use herbs for remedial reasons or temporary backup. Though, many herbs are completely safe and extremely healthy for longterm as well. If you do go with a herbal viagra type thing, stay away from ones with yohimbe, it's damaging to the liver. Epimedium (horny goat weed) is safe, but may not be something you want to take for extended periods without a break.
