I take .25mg sometimes it works in 30 minutes but sometimes I try and get over the anxiety myself and leave it too long before I take the xanax and it takes an hour to work. The effects of the xanax only last 4 hours for me too so I am going to see is I can either get a higher dose maybe .50mg or try the xanax xr. Has anyone tried the xanax xr (slow release). I have been on .25mg for 2 years on and off - do you think that maybe I need a higher dose and is it normal to need a higher dose after being on it for this long

also, I am scared to take more then one tablet every 6 hours, what happens if my anxiety is bad can I take 1 and a half or 2 - can this hurt me?

Hmmmm, xanax is a tricky drug. It is pretty short acting which has it's pros and cons. I take .50 mgs from time to time and although it is very effective it is very addictive. If you would like a drug that is a little longer lasting you could try ativan or even clonazepam as they both stay in the system longer than the short acting xanax.
