Q: Malrotated Kidney

Hi,

i'm a 36 yr old female and just had a ct scan with contrast due to pelvic pain and the report stated that I had a malrotated kidney (no obstructions). Three months ago I had a ct scan (looking for kidney stones) without contrast and there was no mention of a malrotated kidney, I also had an ultrasound of my kidneys around the same time (3 months ago) again there was no mention of this. My question is can a kidney become malrotated on its own or does it seem like the current report is wrong? Seems like a malrotated kidney should be obvious and therefore should have been noted on the previous reports.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Malrotated Kidney
I was just informed that my daughter (age 23) also has a malrotated left kidney. She recently had an MRI of the lumbar spine and that is where they found it. Of all her other imaging tests, it never showed up either. I was wondering the same thing, as she is experiencing a great deal of low back/pelvic pain.

Let me know if you find anything out.
