Hi,

i'm a 36 yr old female and just had a ct scan with contrast due to pelvic pain and the report stated that I had a malrotated kidney (no obstructions). Three months ago I had a ct scan (looking for kidney stones) without contrast and there was no mention of a malrotated kidney, I also had an ultrasound of my kidneys around the same time (3 months ago) again there was no mention of this. My question is can a kidney become malrotated on its own or does it seem like the current report is wrong? Seems like a malrotated kidney should be obvious and therefore should have been noted on the previous reports.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Malrotated Kidney
I was just informed that my daughter (age 23) also has a malrotated left kidney. She recently had an MRI of the lumbar spine and that is where they found it. Of all her other imaging tests, it never showed up either. I was wondering the same thing, as she is experiencing a great deal of low back/pelvic pain.

Let me know if you find anything out.

hi there, im a 28 year old female and just found out i have a malrotated kidney in my pelvis, i have been suffering with unbearable pain for 3 years now, and nothing has ever been found, until last week, i knew i had a pelvic kidney which they doctors told me was the cause of all my urine infections i keep getting, latley its all got worse, i was admitted to hospital 6 weks ago, the pain was so bad i thought i was going to die, worse than labour! i had bllod in my urine, and couldnt wee properly, my back and pelvis was so painful i just couldnt move, i was vomiting, sweating, god, it was just awlful, the doctors found a malrotated pelvic kidney, basically the kidney is twisted, which is causing me all this grief, i cant belive it only just been found after all this time, aparantly normal ultrasound scan are difficult to pick this problem up, now i know why i have given birth prematurley to al my children, the doctor said its because of the kidney being in my pelvis and also because it is malrotated, im seeing a kidney specialist in the next 2 weeks, the doctor said it might be possibly they will want to remove the kidney as im young and having so much pain, with 2 children to look after, its very worrying, but i feel so rough. i just want to feel well again.

Wow,
I recently found out through an ultrasound in the ER that I had massive dermoid tumor on my right ovary and a rotated right kidney. I am 41 and have been experiencing low back pains as well. I've never even heard of this until now. I don't really know if the condition is really serious, although it appears as though your case needs immediate attention. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning and will follow up with this post then.

malrotated kidneys
If you have cyst and are in pain it could be the cyst popping and if you are feeling extreme pain to where you feel sick or drop to your knees see your gyno. If it's more like you just got hit there, still talk to a gyno however it most likely won't be anything. cyst is a- well here read for yourselves http://www.medicinenet.com/ovarian_cysts/a rticle.htm

if you have a malrotated kidney you were born with it. It's a kidney that had not moved to the right place/postion while you were in your mothers womb. your doctor most likly didn't feel to mention it because it's not an issue and didn't want to freak you out.
