Abdominal Pain, Normal Poo Posted: 11-22-06 00:46am
Fyi, I am a 22 year old female, prior
medical history of migraines and cervical
dysplasia (for which I had a leep, and am
now dysplasia free).
Yesterday morning I had severe abdominal
pain in the periumbilical region (around
the belly button) a few hours after
eating. It was a light meal that I had
the night before the pain (spaghetti,
salad, and bread), and no one else was
sick afterwards. The pain was like my
stomach was trying to digest glass shards,
and after 5 hours of this, I went to the
emergency room. The hospital ran urine
tests, blood tests, and did an
ultra-sound, but found nothing. They
gave me morphine with phenargen for the
pain and sent me home with a prescription
for vicodin and zantac 150.
Today, I have had flu symptoms and came
home early from work. I took the zantac
as prescribed (twice a day) and also had a
shot of dayquil for my flu symptoms.
When I was feeling better, I ate some
different spaghetti, and a few hours
later, felt the same glass-digesting like
pain. I took 2 vicodin and another
zantac and felt better within 20 minutes.
I've looked at a lot of websites, but
everything i've seen seems to be
associated with abnormal bowel movements
(bm). I haven't experienced any
bleeding in my poo, nor diarrhea, nor
constipation; I have totally normal bm's.
I am planning on scheduling an
appointment with a doctor, but some
helpful input would be appreciated.
Some co-workers have mentioned
diverticulitis and ulcerative colitis, but
once again, my bm's are normal.
I am due for my period soon, and I am on
birth control (the nuva ring), but the
pain was more central stomach than lower
abdomen (like period cramping). Can you
help?

You probably have celiac disease! Posted: 03-30-08 08:51am
I have had the same symptoms from eating
anything with gluten or wheat all of my
life, but since this disease is unfounded,
it took 23 years to diagnose.
Try a few days avoiding any and all grains
and foods that contain wheat. No
spaghetti or pasta, bread, oatmeal, ......
anything containing gluten, including
foods marketed towards being alternatives
to gluten.
I hope this solves this.
Celiac disease is very serious and blood
tests and ultrasounds cannot diagnose it.
Good luck, despite this being two years
since this was written, maybe it will help
