I don't understand what you are confused about. He said he loves you. That means, yes he likes you/loves you 'in that way.' you guys are best friends that are physically/sexually attracted to one another, which is very, very similar to being in a relationship. Maybe the label is not there, but the definition is. If you do not want to be in a relationship, i'd say you two should probably not be best friends then. Do you see a future with this guy? Could you two get married one day? Even if it seems far away and impossible now, the best partner (i think) would be someone you call your best friend. And, since you two had sex, it probably means you aren't afraid to do anything sexually with him. You are attracted to him. So i'm not sure why you posted. Maybe all the question you had here was something not to post here but to ask your best friend. Communication is key.
