Q: Partial Birth Abortion

I've heard about partial birth abortions, and researched the procedure on the internet. What I don't understand is why there's such a screeching outrage about this if it is only performed in cases where the mother's life is in jeopardy or when the fetus is dead or profoundly damaged. Has anyone ever heard of a case in which a perfectly healthy fetus, capable of surviving outside the womb, has been killed in this manner? Please link me to any unbiased resources on this subject, as I would very much like to know more.

Pba is only done in conjunction with 'labor and delivery abortion', and it is used when the fetal head cannot be delivered, usually because of hydrocephalus.

Most p.L. People do not know how abortion is even performed, so they assume that pba is done during every later term abortion, which is inaccurate.

they also don't know why it is performed because they are constantly screeching that healthy, live fetus' are being killed in this way. This is extremely untrue and may even cause quite a bit of additional stress to a woman who finds herself needing one of these procedures. This procedure is used when there will be absolutely no baby. This procedure is used when the fetus is so severely deformed that a traditional induced labor is not possible (or would risk the woman's life and health).

Pretending or claiming that perfectly healthy fetus' are being aborted during the second trimester (or later) by this method is an extreme example of the blatant lies, half-truths, and misconceptions about the d & x procedure that proliferate this conversation. It would be good if everyone would become more educated about the *actual* procedure, why it is used and for what purpose before they decide that it is not medically necessary for women.

Off the point, I don't see the problem (amongst pro-choicers) with partial-birth abortions for any reasons =]

Krypos..

No, I do not see a problem with 'd&x' at all, but I also know that it is only used during an abortion which is being done for fetal deformities. It is done in conjunction with labor and delivery abortion, which is chosen because the doctor and woman want an intact baby for autopsy and special tests. Women want answers as to why their baby was deformed, and they may also want other ceremonies.
