Time to Get to It.

It's about time that .I start getting things for .Gabe... But .I'm not sure what kinds of things to start getting! I know .I'm getting at least 1 baby shower, but .I don't know what people traditionally get as gifts.. So .I'm kind of lost as to what .I should get for myself. &.I don't want to rely on people getting me stuff .I really essentially need for him. I want to make sure .I have everything .I need &everything .I want for him.

So .I'm thinking like, crib, travel system, car seat (we another for .Chris's car), high chair...?

Do you guys have any websites with lists, or lists of your own of essential big items .I should start getting?

I already feel like .I'm behind on getting stuff for him, since .I only have a few clothes &that's it. So any ideas you guys can give me would be awesome! I feel totally overwhelmed right now!

You need a swing. Trust me.
I got the ocean wonders cradle swing at my shower.
It goes side to side as well, which my son liked much better than swinging the traditional way when he was a newborn.

We have the ocean wonders swing too but finn doesn't really like it. I'm hoping he'll like it eventually. The new line by fisher price is rainforest and the swing is pretty much the same as the ocean one but you can plug it in.

He does like his bouncy chair though, it's the fisher price sensory selections one. He likes to sit in it with the vibration on and the music playing.

My number 1 thing that I almost didn't get but i'm soooo glad I did is my boppy. I use it when i'm feeding him and he also loves to just sit up in it or sleep in it. I want to get another just so I don't have to carry it all over the house with me.

Are you going to register?

Man! My son hated the bouncy at first and loved the swing. Now he likes both.
He is 6 months now and still loves his swing, sadly though, he is about to outgrow it:(

i didnt know they made a kind you could plug in! Thats not fair!!
These swings eat up the batteries like crazy!! If I had a choice at the time I would def. Pick the kind you can plug in.

i know! I saw it like 2 days after i'd put the ocean wonders swing together and thrown out the packaging, otherwise I would've exchanged it for the plug-in one.

our doctor recommended one, because she said babies love rhythmic motions, and my son does.

he always looked at me like he wanted to kill me when I tried to put him in it. I think he likes rocking motion instead of swinging.

The ocean wonders swing has been such a hit with my friends babies and with my three year old when he was a wee lil' lad. My son hated the typical type of swing and also loved to go side by side! Plug in kinds??? That is not fair! We went through so many batteries. I will highly consider that with our next one. We gave away most of our stuff last year because we were going to wait longer until our next one (never say that).

The bouncy chairs and the criss cross floor mobiles are also wonderful. I personally would register for the bigger items and see what you get. Don't feel greedy. I even buy my friends the bigger items. I don't know if you have registered, but when you do don't be shy!!! We were a bit shy and didn't want to ask people for things (which is kind of the point) and that left people guessing. We were going to buy some of the bigger items ourselves but some of our friends who have kids said, "no, register first!" I am glad I listened to them. I was like you and didn't want to rely on people for certain things. After the baby shower, I went shopping.

We didn't get a lot of clothes, crib sheets, mattress pads, or smaller toys at the shower. I have heard other stories where people received a lot of clothes for their little one, so I guess it depends.

I basically bought some of the "less fun" stuff that I didn't really want to ask people for because it would be boring to get...(washable diaper clothes for burb clothes, towels, wash clothes, blankets, easy button undershirts, etc).

I got a lot of stuff from my friend who was "done" having kids and she gave me a lot of blankets. I laughed at first at the amount of blankets but learned you can never have too many. I wish I can find the "essentials" list! I will look for the list that was given to me or a website.

The extra car seat - I bought the extra one.

Sometimes in the paper you might run into like moving sales that have a lot of baby things that haven't even been used, sometimes you can get some great deals. You can register at about any of the stores that carry baby things. When are the two of you getting your own place?

I'm not sure what kind of travel system you are getting, but I have a graco and instead of buying an extra car seat, you can just get an extra base for about $30. You can just move the same seat from car to car by using the base. That's what we're doing for my mom's car.

I would not bother with a high chair right away as it will be a while before gabe is sitting up eating baby food.
