Does anyone else suffer from muscle spasms
in their calves when your blood sugars
have been high for a while? I wake up in
the night literally screaming and crying
with pain - it feels like someone is
ripping a knife through my muscles.
Yesterday when I had high ketones, my
whole legs were cramping for a couple of
hours then whenever I stood still I got
muscle spasms.

i get muscle spasms in my legs too.. They
don't hurt, but they are hella annoying.
What do you mean by cramping? As in "pins
and needles" or do you mean a dull,
muscular ache? I get the dull ache
frequently. In fact, I have it now in
both legs.
I do not know if I have diabetes, however,
I suspect I may have it.

I started getting aches and pain in my
legs about 3 months ago. Mostly in my
lower legs. Little knots and aches.
Not really muscle "cramps" that are
painful. Like the other poster, they're
just annoying and worriesome. I went to
see my gp and he ordered bloodwork to make
sure it wasn't an enzyme issue from my
cholesterol medication (and it wasn't).
He did find my iron stores were a little
low and told me to take an otc iron pill
for a month or so (which i've done). He
also had me get the test where they
measure the pressure in your arms and legs
to rule out claudication (results were
normal).
Final conclusion: none. He told me I
could try drinking some tonic water before
going to bed. I did that once. I guess
i'm coming to my own conclusion that it's
some level of neuropothy. It seems to
have eased off in the past month but is
definitely still there. I can feel it
right now. It also seems to be recurring
in the same spots (but not always). When
I get on the treadmill, it hits after
about 10 or 15 minutes but I can exercise
through it.
I was scared it was dvt or pad but he
doesn't think it is.
