Q: Crohn's? Diagnosing digestive disorders
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 14th, 2006
I have been having a severe constant pain in my upper right quadrant. I have shown markers for Crohn's Disease, some inflammation in colon, doc doesn't think its Crohn's. Had an ultrasound on my gall bladder, all is fine. Could this just be IBS, even if the pain is in 1 specific spot? Pain is severe, comes for a week, leaves for a day, worse at night and in the morning. I am scheduled for a HIDA and a capsule endo. Please let me know any input. I have been reading on all digestive disorders and my symptoms aren't exactly just one!

Appendix, Appendicitis, Gallbladder Disorders Answer A1886
There aren’t specific laboratory tests that can confirm or exclude Crohn’s disease. Crohn’s disease can be confirmed or excluded only via endoscopy (a capsule endo) combined with a biopsy and patho-histological interpretation. HIDA-scans are used for evaluation of the gallbladder function. Billiary dyskinesia, for example, is diagnosed with HIDA. If everything comes out normal and no structural damages are found, then the remaining diagnostic possibility is irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). IBS is functional disorder of the intestines without structural damage present.

Im wondering if i had the flu? the next day i felt fine. i called my GI and he doesnt understand that I never had issues with diarrah in the past, and says i need to continue on the Asacol. Im nervous because if im allergic i dont want to have the same reaction. What should i do?
