Q: a Bride With Bad Skin On Microgestin/loestrin

I have been taking microgestin for about 8 months since I got off of the ortho evra patches. I was happy to make the switch because the patches were giving me high blood pressure (and i'm only 25) and it frightens me to think of what could have happened if I had kept taking them, and I would have had the media not covered all the neg. Health affects.

Anyway, I was relieved that my blood pressure returned to normal after a few months and love the 3 day light periods I get on microgestin. But my skin is horrible!!!! I have tried everything for it and I still am breaking out and oily. On other pills I have taken my skin has been super dry and I maybe get 1 pimple a month if even.

Could anyone recommend a good low hormone pill that is good for the skin? I would also like to be able to skip periods on the pill which you are not able to do on microgestin. I am getting married in 8 months and I dont want to be broken out on my wedding day and or worrying about having my period on my wedding or honeymoon.

I have taken yasmyn and ortho tri cyclen in the past and they were okay but I think i'd like to try something new. Would love any advice.

:d

I started off with loestrin, and then I switched to microgestin as well, and they said it would help with acne, but in my experience, it's worsened as well. I asked, but they insist that it doesn't have to do with the birth control, or if it does, it is due to my body adjusting to the hormones and it won't last past a month, but it has already lasted longer than that. I'm not sure why though...

Zovia
Well I have been on the loestrin for 8 months or so now and my skin is just getting worse after years of my skin being great. So I really have to think it must be the pills. My Dr. Wants to switch me to zovia now. I am going to make the switch and see if that helps. I know ortho tri cyclen is supposed to be good for acne but I wasnt crazy about what it did for my cramps, headaches and moodswings. I'll let you know if the zovia works if I make the switch or maybe your Dr. Is right and in this case your body just has to adjust. But i'd say if you dont notice it getting better in a couple months you should try something else

Abster, might I ask - what birth control[s] cleared your skin? I've battled acne for a while as well as oily skin. I've been on yaz since july and I haven't really noticed a difference.

Clear Skin
Ortho tri cyclen was the first bc I took and there was a dramatic change in my skin when I started taking it. It's the only birth control that is clinically proven to clear up acne but there are others that do the same and just don't advertise it. Here is a great website which list which pills are good for whatever outcome you hope to achieve or problem you're hoping to fix.

in my experience ortho tri cyclen gave me a lot of yeast infections and my old roomate said that ortho mcneil which makes the pills also make the popular otc yeast infection medicine. I'm not a conspiracy theorists. But I smell something funny. I also took ortho evra patches and had good results on that but I highly urge you not to take the patches. I had high blood pressure and many women have died for strokes and blood clots while on the patched. Now I am trying zovia, which I guess is generic for demulen. I'll let you know how it goes.

Had you been prone to yeast infections before starting ortho-tri-cyclen? Or did they begin once you started the birth control?

I would really love to try ortho-tri-cyclen, and see if it makes a difference in my skin because i've heard it works wonders.

Ortho Tri Cyclen
I had never had a yeast infection in my life before starting ortho tri cyclen. But also, I started becoming sexually active around the same time so that may have something to do with it. Ortho tri cyclen is the #1 bc pill in the country for a reason. Obviously many women use it and like it. I would say give it a try and if you have any side effects then try another kind. It is nice to be aware of the side effects when taking any medication, but particularly with bcp's the packets are so big and somewhat overwhelming with the small print. I think many women do not take the time to read through the entire packet and experience side effects without even realizing it may be attributed to the pills. Are you using it for the purpose of acne control or birth control or both? Good luck!
