Q: Phase 2 - My Second Attempt

I tried phase 2 again - I was doing great! Lowered my fat intake, excersizing daily, life was good. Then last week I started with the vertigo again. I tried to ride it out but I was getting the derealization/depersonalization too. (not as bad as my first days but scary just the same). I always feel better after I eat protein and i'm trying to figure out what i'm doing wrong. Maybe I not doing the proper protein/fat/carb ratio? In phase 2, what do you think the ratio should be?

I revised the second phase did you read the revised version or the previous one? All you need to do is increase the carbohydrates a bit so you're getting perhaps 10-15g per meal or so. Brussel sprouts are the caca for this. Tell me everything you're doing other than the diet so I can see if I can figure it out for you. I mean everything, work, how many hours, exericising, etc.

Also, don't forget, you may simply be adjusting again, I think I mention that possibility in there. Or, maybe you cut out too much fat. Answer my question first and we'll go from there, we need to work this out for everyone so we have a diet that can generally work for anybody.

First, I should mention that i've been working 6 days a week. In terms of exercise, i've been doing 30 - 45 minutes cardio every day and circuit training 2-3 a week. (however, I missed the gym all last week because I was too busy at work).

I've only been using olive oil when I cook and, trust me, I put a lot more that two tablespoons. I've reduced my avocado intake to 1/2 - 1/4 of an avocado most days but not everyday. I've been able to eat a small amount (1/4 cup) of grape nuts with soy milk from time to time. Also, I was eating a snack size of organic unsweetened apple sauce as a snack and I always ate it with nuts. I have been waiting a while to eat - 3 1/2 hours.

On november 4, I noticed I was feeling great! I was focused, had energy, I was on fire! But by that monday, 11/7, I started with the vertigo ... A few days later ...Depersonalization was back. Of course, it was worse at night. It totally freaks me out, so i'm back to phase 1 again.

I read about your brussel spout findings and lucky for me, I actually like them. I sautee them with shallots and olive oil. They're quite good!

Anyway, i'm starting to think I have to just accept my fate. Considering my family history, I just may never be able to eat certain foods. But I would like to eat certain fruits/vegetables from time to time. I'm asking to be able to revert back to a normal diet but a sweet potatoe with a little butter would be nice Smile
today, i'm feeling better but still a little disinterested with my surroundings.

It's probably just an adjustment, though you sound like you may be doing a ton and that probably has an effect. I'd keep the avocado at half. Don't worry, you'll add stuff back in, it took me roughly up until now until I was able to add back in items I was leaving out before. Grain coming soon...

Thanks, stan. I feel a bit more encouraged. I'll keep up with the avocado. I think I wait it out this week and if I don't have any more symptoms for a few days, I try phase 2 again. I'll go no longer than 3 hours between meals and keep better track of my carb/protein/fat ratio. I know i'm pushing myself lately. Believe it or not, it's hard to fit in 8 hours of sleep although I think it would help me.

Re: grain coming soon: isn't it funny how we rejoice in the simplest things, now? I remember a time when I heard "cake" and "coffee" and I came running. Right now, I would consider a glass of milk (raw & organic) a treat. Smile

Yeah, but hey, look at it positively, it makes enjoying those foods that much more because we have to be so restrictive. If I can ever eat a piece of pizza again, say once every two weeks, you can be damn sure i'm going to enjoy and take my time with every bite of that trash. Maybe what you need to do is only mess with time later in the day. Say, after your fouth meal wait an additional 15 minutes before you eat the next one and so on until the last for the day. I think I should change that about phase 2, a slow progression would make much more sense. Occasionally, you may want to try going longer, I have with no problem most of the time, but I wouldn't just jumpt straight into such a leap. One hour may seem like nothing, but for us even five minutes can matter sometimes.

It's funny you mention time, stan, because i've been thinking a lot about the timing of my meals.

Case-in-point: tuesday - I was delayed eating lunch because my meeting ran late. That night, I left work late and had grape nuts with soy milk for dinner at 10:30 pm.

Those two incidents set me up for an attack on wednesday night. Driving home with vertigo and depersonalization is not fun at all. Last night, I was wracking my brain trying to figure out what was I eating that was creating this attack when I realized my timing has been completely off.

Today, i'm keeping a log of what I eat and when. I'm eating more than usual but I know that's because i've been so off schedule. I'm sure I was playing with timing too much during phase 2, as well. When I start to extend my time between meals, i'm going to do it much smaller increments.

Yeah, I think it's best, for two reasons.

1. It will make sure your body adjusts easily because 15 minutes isn't too much of a stretch but 30 or more can definitely cause some problems if you're not careful.

2. More importantly, it will help youmentally adjust to times because after eating for at least several months on a schedule like this, there is certainly going to be a bit of anxiety when going longer, and making the increments short makes it easy. Soon, hopefully, we can all do it like this to get our meals to around every 4 hours or so. I don't plan on eating less than that because it's supposed to be better for you anyway.
