Q: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm [aaa}

I've asked various doctors the following question and either they don't want to talk about it or they just don't know. My mother has elected to not have surgery for her 6.1 cm aaa. What can we expect when it ruptures? I know there should be abdominal and back pain. But I basically want to know if the death is quick or if it takes a while. I know that most people won't make it to the hospital but as I said, she plans on dying from it in her home. No one ever talks about what happens when people die. I think it's a disservice to the family. My concern is not only for her but for who ever in my family finds her dead body. If anyone has had any experience, however graphic, i'd really appreciate it.

Thank-you

A rupture of a aaa results in death almost instantly. The aorta is the biggest atery in the body and when it ruptures the patient "bleeds out" in a matter of seconds.
