Last month (my first month of taking bc),
I was taking loestrin fe 24, but this
month i've switched over to microgestin.
Originally, when I first started taking
birth control, my doctor said to wait a
month, then use another method of
protection like a condom, the week after
my period. I wanted to know when it'd
be okay to have unprotected sex and also
if I have to wait longer, because i've
been taking a new bc pill.

Use a back up method for 7 days (such as a
condom) after starting or changing birth
control.

my doctor made it seem like the first week
of every month I have to use a condom.
The information leaflet doesn't list
anything about when it's okay to have
unprotected sex though. Should I just
follow her advice? Why would have I have
to use backup birth control, when all the
other birh control pills i've heard of,
don't need that the 1st week of the month?

It's not every month - it's the first 7
days of your b/c.
Give your doctor a call and confirm things
with him/her.
