When I was a baby (about 24 years ago) I would awaken during the night screaming and crying and sweating. My mother was always so scared when this happened and didn't know what to do because I wouldn't wake up for a long time. She went to the pediatrician and asked him what should she do. He said I was having night terrors and when this happens, when I don't wake up, she should put me in a cool bath and that would wake me and stop me from crying. And I guess it worked, it helped wake me up, but I would still have the recurring terrors for the next few years. Is this or was this a common remedy for night terrors?
And also, every so often (about every other month) since I can remember to this day, I will awaken during the night (about an hour after I go to sleep) and think i'm choking on something. I can't catch my breath I just keep choking like something's stuck in my throat. After a while (about 2-5 minutes) I snap back into reality and go back to sleep like nothing happened. I live with my fiance, and sometimes I will wake him up and ask him to "help me I can't breathe" and i'll be choking and crying. I do this all the time, so he knows that i'm really not choking and he tries to calm me down until I snap out of it and go back to sleep. Most of the time (about 70%) I don't remember at all, but sometimes I do. Is this something to worry about? Are these still the night terrors from my childhood?
