asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 3rd, 2006
A while ago..i started getting these random lumps under my armpit... and if u were to look at them u can see a red spot..they hurt very much but also gone within 2 or 3days no more that im sure of when i read other peoples stories... they said theres r there for months, weeks or even years... and that's not me... before i while i think i was 15 or 14 i had got a lump in my left breast.. and had it checked out and ultra sound done they told me i was to young to have breast cancer and told me it was a muscle thats why it hurts when my period comes and they get sore and big... well now i get these on and off every blue moon. my mom said she use to get them a lot and my sister said she gets them sometimes.. im not sure if it's from shaving... well im very worried!

When talking about lumps under the armpit one must first distinguish if the lumps are on the skin or under the skin. Red spots that hurt and are gone within 2-3 days are probably some kind of hair follicle inflammation. Inflammation of the follicles can occur after shaving.

Lumps under the skin are usually the product of enlarged lymph nodes. Enlarged lymph nodes in the armpit can be due to infection or breast cancer. Lumps in the breasts should be carefully examined to exclude breast cancer. It is true that during the menstruation the breasts are a little tight and sore. To conclude, you can visit your GP for an examination and possible diagnosis.
