Q: Late Taking Pill

Hi, stupid question here....

I just started on lutera this week. Today I took my fourth pill, but I was an hour and 15 minutes late taking it. Will this make a difference as to when it's okay to have unprotected sex? Should I move the date back a day? I know it's probably fine cause it was only an hour, but i'm the queen of paranoia. Thanks. *lol.*

also, this is just a strange add - on...Right after taking the last pill my throat got strangely dry and i've been coughing non-stop even after drinking water. I'm wondering if it's not some odd side effect of the pill (drying out my throat maybe)?

Sorry for this odd post. Thanks for any advice.

You are okay, you do have some leeway in taking the pill.

Read the leaflet that came with your birth control - it will list possible side effects and tell you whether that particular side effect requires you to seek medical attention or not.

Thanks...I was looking around the net after this post and read somewhere that it seems to be fine to take bc within at least three hours of the time you normally do without disrupting the level in your body. After that and your responses I feel a bit better. Smile

i promise you that info will be contained in the leaflet or your specific birth control. Please read it.

As a general rule
*a combined pill has a leaway of 3-4hours (but should be taken as close to the same time as possible).

*a mini or estrogen only pill has a leaway of about an hour (but should be taken as close to the same time as possible).

I only came online to ask questions after having read my entire packet carefully and not finding the specific info I was looking for. But thank you for your answers.

http://www.Womenshealthandpleasure.Com/b_c on/lutera.Pdf the above is from page 3 Wink

I have read the whole thing too. I am on lutera. I have taken the pill four hours late, it does not say how my risk increases, it just says "if you missed a pill" I am sure my risks are not the same as some one who has taken the pill only one hour late, or some one who has taken the pill 10 hours late! just tell me what to do, what is the possibility that I will become pregnant? (I had sex 15 hours before I was supposed to take the pill, meaning I took the pill 19 hours after I had sex.)
