I have had a stiffining pain in my lower back for about 2 months now which affects my sciatic nerve; some days are better then others. I went to the doctors & was perscribed 800mg ibprofin & my back still hurts. I am done with the meds & made another appointment to go back next week but with no insurance I may have to get x-rays. Has anyone had this problem & can maybe shed some light on the situation?

Thank you in advance!

Back Pain
I know that you have had some problems with your back.

I was just wondering if you have seen a physiotherapist to see if they can help.
I
know you have no medical insurance insurance. But may be you could borrow some money from your family or a small loan from the bank.

But if your back is that bad.

Ask for a mri scan from your gp because x-rays may not show up the problem with your back.

Hope this helps.
Good luck

Lower Back Pain
I have had chronic lower back pain now for 3 years and I have ra, and it started off like yours with sciaticaand my advice to you is get a mri or at least some xrays to rule out a ruptured disc, or some pinched nerves. Sometime xrays wont show the problem. Be careful with that high dose ibuprophen it can really hurt your stomach..

Hello, I have had chronic neck and back pain for the past 4 years following two incidents, one being a violent assualt and another was a auto accident. I have been to many doctors, all who tell me to basically "walk it off". I am in severe pain and x-ray's, bone and soft tissue mri's showed nothing except that my spine was straight as an arrow. I had a very good doctor 2 years ago in arizona who knew I was in pain and gave me many treatments from chiropractic work, to accupuncture, to electric shock on the muscles in my back. Combined with pain medicine I was slowly getting better until I moved to washington and my new doctor brushed off my pain as if it were nothing. I went two more years with no treatment until I moved again to colorado and found a very good doctor who knew I was in pain and knew there was a way out. He ordered mris, blood tests for anklosing spondilitis (sp) and it was negative, he sent me to physical therapy and referred me to a very good pain specialist and I am now working again and my pain is managed properly.

If I had no insurance I never would have been able to do all this, but the point of my story is don't let doctors tell you if you are in pain or not. Whether or not the mri's or x-rays show anything you are in pain and need treatment. If your doctor doesn't fix your problem or give you treatment or medicine to help, find a new doctor who will.
