Q: No Period on Birth Control
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 1st, 2006
I am on a generic form of Orto Novum 1/35 and have been taking this pill for more than a year now.
I am always very careful to take my pill at the same time every day. Though I may take it a couple of hours later than normal sometimes, I have never once missed an active pill. And I have not been sick in any way that would conprimise the pills effectiveness.

So my questions is, with this pretty much perfect use of BCP is it normal to get no period at all for one month? I have had some cylces with extremely light periods, I mean I had one day during the inactive pill week when I had one very small instance of spotting and that's it. But what about if there is not even any spotting during the inactive pill week?

Should I be concerned about pregnancy even though I took all my active pills correctly?

Lack of a menstrual period (amenorrhea) atypical during usage of birth control pills. Therefore, pregnancy or the presence of functional ovarian cyst must first be excluded. Birth control pills are very efficient in preventing pregnancy but they are still not 100% safe. You can easily confirm or exclude pregnancy with a home pregnancy test. Functional ovarian cysts can be seen only with ultrasound. You can visit a gynecologist for an examination.
