asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 31st, 2006
my son, has been complaining of stomach pain , inside belly button , now for almost 1 year. he has been to the gastro. dr and has had uppergi's 2 times once showed an small ulcer starting , then the next its was cleared up he is on prilosec 2x's a day has been for a while. he has also been for a cat scan to make sure there wasnt anything else. he has never really stopped complaining about the pain, mild to moderate, maybe for only about 2 months all this time. it doesnt matter what time of day, what he eats or what is going on, they just seem to happen. no fever, no vomiting, no going or not going to the bathroom. just happens, his face does get red and his ears do to they also get really warm. i dont know what more to do for him and the dr just wants him on meds. and doesnt give me any answers. he has been tested for food allergies and has none.
there is no dicharge, no discoloration, no pain but in the belly button.
please help me find a next step , where should i look?? i feel bad for him i can never give him an answer and i know he's hurting....
thanks......slvs

For now, the pain your son is experiencing seems to be caused by the peptic ulcer on his stomach. You can, however, request an abdominal ultrasound to identify other possible causes for the pain. A laparoscopy is the final diagnostic solution, but is only requested if absolutely necessary. You can consult a pediatric-gastro-enterologist and a surgeon that specializes in treating children to follow up.
