Hi there, first timer bare with me! Does
anyone have information that may help me
with my broken jaw?
My jaw was broken in two places but
because it was not diagnosed for 19 days
by the 9 doctors and dentists that I saw,
it became infected. Finally, the breaks
were detected and it was discovered that
one of the breaks went up into my eye
tooth. The tooth was dead so a root canal
was done. I am at 28 days now since my
accident and I still have a tremendous
amount of pain and my tooth is painful. I
can not open my mouth wider than 1 inch
and still can not eat solid foods. I
would like to think that this is normal,
but as it took so long to diagnose I am
worried there may still be more
complications? Or is this a normal
process of healing? How long does this type
of injury take to heal.
Does anyone have any experience with this
type of injury or knowledge that may help?
thanks

Hi there,
i broke my jaw in two palces about 3-4
months ago now. I did not have a delay in
being seen like yourself and had my jaw
plated with three plates, 2 on the
fracture and one on the break. I found
that it took a good 1-2 months before I
could open my mouth more than an inch and
I am only now getting the full movement.
I was on softs for about 6 weeks which was
tedious. I recommend build up which is a
supplement drink mixed with milk gives you
everthing you need and lots of calcium.
One main thing though is don't try and
force your mouth open or keep trying to
see how far you can open it bacause you
can put yourself back to square one really
easily. Other than that you just jave to
be patient I foud.
I don't suppose you know how long it is
before you can do contact sport because
you are the only person I have met with a
similar problem
cheers

Hi
I recently well about 6 months ago was
diagnosed with a 'fractured mandible' if
you will. I am 20 years old and was 19 at
the time it happened and was on my way
getting my wisdom teeth out when
apparently my jaw just broke. I dont know
how it just breaks but I wasnt conscience.
I am not a very big girl so I always
thought that was the case. I know how your
feeling and it honestly took me about 3
months to fully heal where I can eat just
about anything I wanted to. Within the
limitations of my now developing TMJ and
arthritis in my jaw. Luckily for me it was
from a 'medical malpractice' suit and I
will be getting monetary gains from this
awful incident.
I suggest you start taking a lot of
vitamins and protein shakes if possible I
lost 20 pounds when I had my mouth wired
shut. As for sports, I was/am on a
lacrosse scholarship and the doctor told
me I wouldnt be able to play for a FULL
year. That could just be my isolated
incident but I would definitely check it
out. Im sure its different for the level
of activity your playing in. Im sure golf
is ok. : )
I wish you a speedy and safe recovery and
I hope it all heals well!
