Pms And Overt Questions About Race
Posted: 10-28-06 19:04pm

Since I have been posting pictures of chu I have received a lot of pms and one or two overt questions about his race. I find it somewhat insulting but since it will probably continue until I answer here goes (and you can make of this what you want)...

I .H.A.V.E .N.O .F.R.E.A.K.I.N.G. I.D.E.A.!!! I'm haitian/dominican so I don't think about race the same way everyone else (meaning american) does. I think what most people here are trying to ask is if he is white or black. He is neither. Ethnically speaking we are spanish (or to be pc about it, latino). He is latino. I do not truly think of myself or my husband in terms of white or black, we are neither. We are spanish. That's it. Nothing more nothing less. So chu is haitian/dominican/puerto rican. If you are going by color of skin then my husband is white and I am black and chu is still neither. So you decide what you think he is and he will be what he is

Girl, i'll answer those questions for you.
He's an adorable little boy with an attitude just as big as could be!Don't let the pms get to you....They are just trying to figure out what it takes to get such a beautiful baby Wink
.V.I.V.E .L.O.S .L.A.T.I.N.O.S! (did I say that right?)

i love .Chu no matter what 'race' he is, and so does .Adriana

we love adriana too! Laughing I guess I just didn't expect it in this day and age but maybe it's natural to be curious... Close enough on the spanish. Vivan los latinos. Sorry if i'm being a b*tch.

My girl loves her .Chu no matter what race he is. She a little melting pot herself!!

I've gotten the "is she mixed" comment too many times. And yes she is. But not with the "traditional" black and white mix.

I'm .Creole and .Baron is .Sicilian. That should explain it pretty well. Look up .Sicily and .Creole and you'll see why her skin and eyes are so dark.

Mah chu will f*ck somebody up!! Hahahaha...That's mah boy!!!!!

Sorry ladies, he's taken!!! Twisted Evil

Yeah...Must be curiosity.
I'm like you, I don't think "what is .Adriana's race?" she's my baby...Period.
My spanish is a bit off. Lol. Probably why it takes awhile to get my point across when I speak with my hubby's family. Oh well....

We were at a wedding reception a few weeks ago and this rude young woman came over and asked me "what is she mixed with, I mean..What is she called?" and then she had the nerve to ask if she could hold her! Yeeeeeeeeeeah right. Not even all my (extended) family members have held her, let alone some strange ass rude person.

hahaha!! I feel you. I just get it all the time. Like when i'm at the store people stare at us all the time and come up and ask me his name like that'll help them figure it out. I just tell them chu. Then they get really confused. Your spanish is fine, I understood you perfectly. Hell I speak spanish on the daily and don't always get it right. Too many rules.

My sister is really dark and everyone always assumes she's mixed. A guy actually came and sat beside her on the bus and he was like "man, what race are you? It's so great to see hot girls of colour. All these white girls are such b*tches". But since I was little people didn't think we were sisters because i'm whiter than sour cream and she definiatly looks mixed. Though we never got offended, or seen it as rude. Maybe I just don't understand, but what about the question makes you mad? If I see a person here that's native (i don't ask) but I wonder what kind of native they are, and would like to ask. I'm not sure what's rude about it? Unless their race bothers them and it's something they don't want to talk about. I got asked a lot because of my accent and last name where I was from and I never thought it was rude, cause i'm proud to be afrikaans... Maybe I just don't understand, but why does it bother you?

it has nothing to do with myrace bothering me. I'm proud of who and what I am although I think the "who" should be more important than the "what". In this day and age why does anyone care what anyone else is? If someone tells me what they are it's different. That's cool. But out of all the things in the world to ask someone, why start with what race they are? If everyone didn't act so sh*tty about it and bring it up so often then maybe it wouldn't be such a big issue for me, it honestly never occurred to me that people would be asking me everywhere I go what race he is. Why is it brought up so often? What does it have to do with anything? Why is it first on everyone's list? When I see people I don't wonder what they are. I wonder who they are, what they do, what they like. Maybe some people could try doing that instead of spending their lives wondering what race my son is...

I think people are just curious and some people don't know how to put it tactfully. Take me for example... I'm first generation american, both my parents are mexican, were in fact born there.

I look nothing like a mexican would be expected to look. I actually look somewhat asian. I have gotten "are you: korean, japanese, chinese, hmong, hawaiin, filipino, and even punjabi" and most of them don't even look like each other! I just shrug it off. But tanya, I can see why tigresa would get annoyed, I know I get a little weirded out when people constantly ask "are you asian" and I say "waaaaay off, i'm mexican..."

i even had some lady come up to me at work and ask "what are you? Are you asian, cuz your eyes do this ::pulls the skin around her eyes up::"

you just have to get used to it, people are going to be curious, and most people now a days can be pretty tactless... Just let them think what they want, you know what your cute baby chu is, he's so freaking adorable, I love his hair.

Wow well I hope you arent pissed at the pm I sent u, cos yeh everyone I asked what race he is. But I asked in a nice way, I wasnt trying to insult you or anything like that! So I dunno what other people said in pm's but I hope you werent talking about mine. Anyway I asked because I think hes adorable, I think mixed race babies are the cutest, so I was just curious about your son. Geez!! Some people are too sensitive. I mean if you're proud of your race why are u making such a big deal out of telling people about your son? I dont get it.

My sisters son is half english, quarter indian and quarter eastern european. So his mom is white, and his dad is dark tanned, and he himself is light tanned... He's the cutest little thing ever, and people often compliment his looks and ask my sister about his race or his dads race. Shes not bothered at all, cos they ask because they think hes really cute, they dont make nasty remarks about it. Shouldnt u be flattered not insulted? I really dont understand you guys' reaction...Oh well!

that's exactly my point. It's annoying. People ask all the time. It's like if someone walks up to you and the first question they ask you all the time is what size shoe you wear. The first couple of times you don't think anything of it but if it keeps happening you're going to start getting pissy and ask yourself why it's so freaking important. What does it have to do with who you are? Whatever, some people will never ever get it and don't see it as rude or offensive, which it is.

Allie, this post wasn't even directed specifically at you even though you did ask. It is directed at everyone who has asked because sooooo many people have asked that it's gotten annoying. Now this topic is dead to me. I will not answer again because people refuse to see how it could be offensive for someone you don't even know to ask you questions like that. I mean we're not friends, we're strangers and none of the people that I am friends with have even asked me.
