Q: Facial Pain And Swellingafter Working On Dental Bridge

I had my bridge (upper right) removed yesterday and replaced by my old temporary bridge. I've been through braces, jaw surgery and tooth extractions in order to help with my tmj, which I haven't had problems with in years. However, after my appointment yesterday I experienced a different kind of pain, unlike the past discomfort associated with crowns/bridges. I woke up this morining with the right side of my face so swollen and in extreme pain! I saw the dentist but due to the swelling and pain he could barely look back at the source. He prescribed penicillin vk 500 mg every 6 hours, peridex twice a day, ora5 topical bactericidal agent for oral mucosa and vicodin for pain. He claimed he wasn't sure of the problem but said he needed to see me everyday for the next several days to monitor my condition. Could you please offer me any possible explanation(s) or possible causes to the problem. I feel left out of the loop about my own condition. Please help? Kim
