In one of my baby books it says babies can make sounds like "mama" but they have no idea what theyre saying unitl later on.

They will say words that just appear to be "baby talk", but the more you associate it with the meaning, they will start using it as so.

Oni goes..."mmmmmmm, mmmmmm,mmmmm" but I don't think of it as her trying to talk to me specifically.

I found wityh both my kids, they did a dadadada or mimimimimim (usually dadadada first) kinda mantra.

I know each of their first "meaningful" words-

1st daughter- said wo wo and pointed at the dog she had spotted (still a dog lover!)- I think she was about 9 months or 10 months old. Meaningful
dad came not long after, mum was after meeow (cat)

2nd daughter - said hurray !! And clapped her hands in responce to her big sister knocking down a big block tower she had made. Also, 9-10 months old.
Now starting to say "hi" with a wave, no meaningful mum, but she now directs dadada to her daddy and points at him, so looking like meaningful "dad" at 11 months.

My first word was "key" ...Lmao.
I'd crawl around &point at things &go "key?!"

My first word was "lighter". I have no idea why I was talkin about lighters bc I still don't smoke or anything lol. Maybe it was because my parents were both smokers...If my kid's first word was lighter i'd be like "what are u talkin about!? Ur first word and ya pick lighter?!" haha

My son's first meaningful words were 'what's this?' and he says it all the time now while pointing at things. I think it's because I say it to him all the time when showing him things.

Still no meaningful 'mummy' though - and he's 19 months old! Think he's more of a physical being than a verbal one - he's very strong and sturdy. A man of few words like his dad!

Logan started to say 'layla' about 2 months ago. At first we thought he was just babbling lalalala but it wasn't cause now he says it clear as day.
He also says mama and dada

I don't know any logans or layla's. I'm sure others near me do, as they are popular names. But I don't think anyone is using courtney anymore. That was more of an 80's baby boom name!! Hhahahah!!

From my experience with my sister's two year old he said dada at about 6 months I think and when he got to a year loads started coming out just things like muma dada ba for grandma and now he's two he's speaking in full sentances as well as he can and is learning loads more words everyday why is a favourate thats gets on everyones nerves why are you doing that, because I need to ,why.........

My son has just started saying 'oh dear!' in a really cute little voice. I'll hear an almighty crash and then 'oh dear!'.

My first word was sunshine! I was born in the winter, and we had this huge skylight and my mom would lay me under it and sing 'you are my sunshine' and it just caught on! We have a video of me going on about sunshine, it's so funny.

Aw thats cute- I sing that to my kids too. Logan has just decided that whenever he meets someone new (or anyone wlks into the room) he will say 'hiya' he must of got it from me cause i'm always saying hiya to people
