Dear ed,
do you know what you have done to me? Do you know how much this hurts? This is my life because of youâ¦â¦
anyone who has suffered from an eating disorder knows how hard it is to fight the uncontrollable negative voices and perceptions that exist in their mind. It is almost as though the eating disorder becomes a separate person, in and of itself. Sufferers sometimes refer to it as ed, or ana, or mia. But, no matter how the sufferer refers to the disorder, it still remains a separate entity that seems to control their thoughts and behaviors.
If you had to write a letter to your eating disorder
what would you say?
The project: letters to ed
i am currently compiling letters from women who suffer from some form of an eating disorder. The letters will be collaborated into a book that will illustrate the relationship one has with an eating disorder, how it affects oneâs life, and how the eating disorder becomes like a separate person controlling oneâs thoughts and behaviors.
I am looking for people who would be willing to submit a letter they have written to their eating disorder to be used in the book. All names will be changed to protect the identity of those who are struggling with these disorders. The purpose of the book is to raise awareness of the complex nature of eating disorders, the distorted cognitions of those who suffer, and the struggle one faces in recovery.
