I was diagnosed with gallstones about a year and a half ago. I've been having mild pain on occasion, after meals, for the past 2 1/2 years. Earlier this year a lipid panel showed my tryglicerides at 852 for which my doctor prescribed gemfribrozil. Three months later, my triglcerides were down to 104 and the gallbladder pain gone, except for an occasional bout of very mild discomfort. The doctor took me off the gemfribrozil because he thought the original test might have been incorrect since my triglycerides dropped so dramatically. My tryglicerides jumped back up to 340 in six weeks and the gallbladder pain came back. My doctor put me back on gemfribrozil and the gallbladder pain has disappeared.
Question: what role, if any, do high triglycerides play in the formation of gallstones and/or attacks of gallbladder pain?
