High levels of bad cholesterol in the blood can increase your risk of heart disease. So how do you know if you're experiencing high cholesterol, or not? ...
Does anybody know why cholesterol is not an essential nutrient, but we need it for proper functioning.

I guess this is a late reply, but the reasoning it's not an essential nutrient is because our body naturally produces enough cholesterol on it's own (through the liver) that we don't need to consume any. We could completely stop ingesting any cholesterol for the rest of our lives and our body would still produce enough on its own.
