Someone gave me a pill yesterday to help alleviate cramps but didn't tell me what it was. I have been throwing up since then, having horrible nausea, am fatigued, and can't think about anything besides how horrible i'm feeling. I asked her this morning and she said it was methadone. Can someone please tell me how long I am going to feel this way, what I can do, and why I am so sick? I need any help I can get.

Welcome! Never take someone elses medication as you never know what it is. Methadone is a presribed medication, I take it for heavy pain, it is also used for drug addicts to get off of heroin which I kind of did not understand because in a way you are changing from one medication to another and it takes time to get off of methadone also but I am sure that methadone is better than heroin, I understand that now methadone is being used on the streets as people are crushing them, kind of like oxycontin. I am not a dr so I cannot answer all of your questions. I just hope that you get over feeling bad and beeing nauseated and fatigued. Please do not take me wrong I am not jumping on you, iy just scares me when people do this, heck who knows, you could have had an allergic reaction to it and it might have killed you. If you are talking about mestral cramps what I used to do is to take some hot water with crushed ginger and stirred it up an let it disolve, and waited until it cooled down some and then drank it and put my feet up for about an hour and it helped me and alot of others, but it might not help everyone. If you are not better after while, I would think about going to the dr and tell him/her that someone gave you something for the cramps and it made you feel this way and you do not know what it was.
Good luck!

It depends on what the dosage is ... any painkiller can be dangerous if you take too much. I took a small small amount of methadone once (it was once of those droppers used to give babies medication and such, and also from someone who was on a very low dosage, so therefore a VERY VERY small amount). It took my cramps away like magic and made me sleep like a baby for a good 5 hours. Moderation is key and having the person who is giving your their prescribed medication being smart enough to know what your tolerance is. Anyway, to answer your question ... it sounds like you OD-ed (mildly, though - so don't freak out) - any vomiting means that there was too much of the drug in you for your body to handle. I was groggy for a few days afterward and you will probably experience that too. Drink lots of liquids to flush it out of your system. And be careful, periods are HELL ... but know what you're taking and trust who is giving it to you know so that you don't accidentally take too much.
xoxo

Methadone is one of the stronger pain killers out there. I would wonder why your co-worker has it in the first place. It's a last resort drug prescribed by doctors. It sounds like you are reacting either as the side effects or full on allergic to. DONT take it again. Take Tylenol, Aleve, Motrin, Midol...stuff like this for cramps and take it out of the bottle you bought. Never take an unknown drug from a friend.

I know alot of ppl that are perscribed methadone..,for pain., I am on for addiction. To the first reply.,When an addict is on methadone they do not get that high or head sensation u may get., due to the stabilization of the dose, and tolerance of the med. Methadone is a life saver to most addicts addicted to OPIATES not just heroin. I am on for becoming addicted to pain pills that were perscribed to me. Someone on methadone could not take a pill or heroin as it is a blocker to the receptors and they will not get high as someone that isnt on methadone will. I suggest you look up info on methadone b4 u assume that addicts take this drug as a substatute because there is absolutly no high related to an addict taking this drug as perscribed. And I would b careful cause addiction does not discriminate.

methadone
hi im new to this but i just want to say, i have been on methadone for 4 years. The last 4 months of my life has been a nightmare. My body stopped takeing my dose and i had to take more(not that it worked). I had hit a wall. I couldnt come down 2mg a week. I didnt have the will power. I did the rapid detox in MI. Have been off 380 mg for 18 days. Never felt any pain. My body is just alittle weak. It has had opiates in it for 9 years. Ive lost 23 pounds, the sweat that use to pour off my face was gone the day of detox. Things smell different, no more sugar cravings. The reason this worked for me is because I was not addicted to anything but methadone. I wanted off the methadone so bad I just didnt know how. I dont think we will ever know how may people are addicted to opiates and methadone. I have been told more then 1 in 5. It is a tragedy! Please dont get me wrong methadone saved my life. People just need to know there are ways to get off of it because the best way I have heard it described is liquid handcuffs. Please if you have any questions write me..
