Weening a Breastfed Baby. Posted: 10-15-06 22:07pm
Is there someone with some advice for me
please. I have been exclusively nursing
my 17week old boy. He has started on
solids(rice cereal with breastmilk), but
he wont take a bottle or a pacifier, the
pacifier is no big deal, I don't mind
that, but the bottle is giving me the
trouble. He sucks on everything from his
favorite toy to his blanket, but he will
not suck on the bottle, he gums it, then
starts "talking", but he will not suck on
it. I have tried every kind of nipple
that I could find, even the one with the
hard nipple inside the soft one, but he
will not take any of them. Please
help!!!
Why dont you continue breastfeeding? Its
the healthiest for babies.

Although breastfeeding is the best, he'll
have to learn to drink from a bottle or a
sippy cup eventually.

Sometimes a breastfed baby won't take a
bottle from his/her mother. Try having
someone else give your baby the bottle.
You might have better luck.

I went through something similar and all I
can say is you have to be stong"stick to
you guns" on this one. Although
breastfeeding is healthier you need time
for yourself and that is where
bottlefeeding is a benefit especially when
you want to spend a night with your
partner.
Every feeding provide bottle first and
dont cave in till baby gets cranky/starts
to cry then provide breast, you have to
kepp doing it every day and finally baby
will get the point!!!
Good luck

My daughter will not take a bottle from
me, (eventhough she doesnt' get a bottle
much) I am sure that if he gets hungry
enough he will take it.
