Q: Arnold Chiari Malformation type 1 (ACM): risks to vaginal bi
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 13th, 2006
Just this past appt with my ob/gyn (37 wks pregnant) I was asked about my ACM condition. She asked me if i was able to push for long periods of time. I was clueless. I had surgery for it 5 yrs ago, but i know as well as you there is no "cure." SO my question is obvious do you think there is any kind of risk for me to go vaginal.

Neurological Disorders Answer A1655
Arnold-Chiari syndrome is a congenital malformation where part of the cerebellum is pushed in to the vertebral canal causing obstruction of the cerebral liquid system (obstructive hydrocephalus). This condition is treated surgically (solving the hydrocephalus).
Whether you'll be able to have a vaginal delivery or not, depends upon the neurological sequels from the anomaly you’ve experienced. You need to be examined by a neurologist to test your abilities.
